In the present climate I do not see how the board can refuse to grant anyone a license with restriction of trade etc and the Luxembourg precedent

Absolutely no risk. Back in the early early 1980s when laser eye surgery was a rare skill and the procedure was far far more complicated Frank Bruno had it done in Bogota.

Tito Ortiz fought his MMA career with contact lenses on!

Laser eye surgery has no impact on the eye in terms of making it more dangerous to compete in. Once you have had the surgery and rested the eye the appropriate time there is no danger. Boxers like iran barkley have had far more complicated dangerous surgery on things like detached retinas and come back to box.

Jamie Coyle had it done. It was mentioned in the run-up to his fight with Ryan Rhodes, where he put in a real gutsy showing.

I think the type of surgery makes a difference? I may be wrong. I know my uncle had to give up contact sports Rugby in particular because of laser eye surgery.

I looked into this just for white collar boxing. As i understand it the old fashioned more invasive method where they reshape the front of the lens is ok but the newer method with a quicker recovery time is not. The modern method is to slice a flap on the top of the eye, lift it then reshape the eye underneath. This means less tissue has to be taken away but the flap could possibly be ripped off with a punch if it is not healed well enough.
It might be a that there is just a longer healing period insisted on and that it isn't banned.

I found this out when a amateur boxer had it done, had a bout too soon and ended up in Moorfields when the flap came away during a bout. Nasty business. This was many years ago so things may have changed.
