I heard Richard Williams boxed today and apparently got stopped in a round? Anyone have any details????

No way was that a premature panic stoppage. Williams was getting clocked far too regularly. The towel went in same time as ref waved it off.

I agree, he took some very heavy shots. Williams could have continued but for how long before he got caught flush again. He is in his 40s and he couldnt get out of the way of those big overhand rights. The corner did the right thing.

I actually had it same as Ken Curtis - 96-94 Qato, but it was subjective. A lot of Hainy's work was being slipped, for me.

Didn't take long to see that line appear.

Didn't have the refs or corners close up view but looked an early stoppage imo.

I have to disagree; Richard couldn't force the issue and was nowhere as smooth as in his prime. He ought to have had a behind doors tune up; he's still very strong looking but seemed to have pushed his punches. The other lad had more confidence; Williams was a very good boxer 10 years ago; hope he can settle in the the idea and leave it alone.

See what your saying Palooka and no doubt RW's looked rusty at best but i suppose i was thinking back yesteryear and the great recupertive powers he showed vs Alexander as an AM etc. Think he got his distance all wrong, was trying to ride/move away from the right hands instead of tucking his left hand up.Anyway, like you say Palooka i hope he finds some peace and re-. retires

Its on Youtube - good stoppage IMO. My only qualm with it was how close it was to the end of the round - but when Richard was holding and then after the break stayed on the ropes, he was pretty gone.... although I can see why people think its a bad stoppage - his legs didn't do a funny dance.... just out strengthed.

His opponent looked very good.

manno- I could imagine Richard being a fantastic physical specimen and a tough proposition in a spar or a street confrontation until he's 60 years old. The chin, instincts and sheer hardness he had 20 years ago v Wayne are gone though. Richard always came across as an intelligent man and I imagined that he'd have had a decent job/career. In his prime he could have stood v almost anyone in the whole world and given them a real row; no he's just not the same and it was a shame to see him get beat; (there were lots more and a far better atmosphere at the Alexander bout ).

Unfortunately Rw was just too relaxed ( his words). IMO and I agree with manno it was just a distance thing. Plus the speed of the right hand. Premature stoppage. IMO RW was just not focused. He was great in sparring and working over all and sundry. Hell be back but this time focused and with no outside distractions. He said the right to the ear hurt him but he was ready to rumble. He was defending himself. Then the towel came in. Premature stoppage.

Watchin it on You tube thought the fight could of went on the import was up for Richard toped the bill in my town many years ago in hartlepool I was good enough to shake his hand great guy great fighter would like to see him correct that fight

Apart from the speed of the other guys right hand I thought RW showed good instincts with the double jab and up close he used both hands to the body. But was over very quickly but I saw the RW of a few years ago in brief flashes. Maybe too ambitious a fight after 6 years out and the guy was good. The test will be when RW has a specified opponent and set rounds. No surprises and then if he feels flat or underperforms then he will know. Smart chap and not the type to flog a dead horse. We will see but I would like to see him get a win or two then see about the English and see what happens after. The guy re fought would have destroyed Qato IMO. Just my opinion. Not looking to start a war!
