I just read that Howard lost a 10 round decision on June 1st to a 8 fight novice in Ghanya!.... has anyone got any details?. I always liked Howard with his quirky character and style and for a while he was a very good and underrated boxer. Shame to see him losing to guys he would probably have used as sparring partners back in his prime.....

I usede to really like watching Howard Eastman fight, him and his brother Gilbert.

Howard use to be class, the battersea bomber, use to be trained by rob McCracken ! Can't believe his still going.

isnt he just fighting for all the different guana titles now? last i looked was 2010 for middle guyana title

Eastman used to be exciting to watch. Then he went through a phase of having what I can only describe as the most boring fights known to man (outside the heavyweight division) where he'd win on points and spend a large part of the fight touching gloves with the opponent. It used to be a load of holding, the ref saying don't hold and the 2 fighters would then touch gloves to apologise for holding and Jim Neilly would go 'ohhhhhh this is great to see!'

I dont remember him being in many boring fights, though to be fair he was a bit of an acquired taste perhaps. Some of his fights were more technical chess matches than all out slugfests but Howard had the skills to make such fights interesting and he always had good power too. He had two close fights with William joppy and Bernard Hopkins... no mean feat!. He actually should have beaten Joppy but faded in the last two rounds.

I thought with the Joppy fight it was more a case of too little too late rather than fading, he stuck Joppy on his backside in the 12th didn't he?

His fights with Tatevosyan, Jerry Elliot and Hopkins were boring in my opinion. I don't see anything technical about endless holding. I did watch the Hopkins fight on the edge of my seat throughout in the sense I wanted Eastman to win, but bottom line there were hardly any effective punches thrown during that fight. But obviously I put that down more to Hopkins who isn't exactly in exciting fights.

Howard had a chin on par with Chris Eubanks!!

Diden't seem to lack confidence i remember. One of those fighters who seemed to be around for a long time before getting a title shot. Similar to McCracken in that respect.

the Hopkins fight, at least, was boring because Hopkins made it so and Eastman didn't push it hard enough (oh-so familiar refrain). i recall thinking Hopkins' movement might mean he'd run out of energy late in the fight, at his age, but he never did. he was determined, at all costs, not to exchange with Eastman in that fight.

Funny enough i watched the Tatevosyan fight over the weekend, I just think that Eastman didn't do well against southpaws.

Hopkins did run, but Eastman would never step it up to really grab the fight. He could have won the Joppy fight if he had pulled his finger out and yes he did drop him in the 12th. Someone summed it up perfectly on here years ago - he's class but never does enough to win, then looks shocked at losing.

I remember seeing Eastman calling out Calzaghe on BBC, shame it never happened, I heard tales of Eastman knocking him about in sparing.

Joppy was too good for Howard, whenever he tried to open up, Joppy nailed him with the uppercut.

Howard was a good fighter, fringe world class, but no more. Great chin, but poor workrate, and flat footed. The Hopkins fight was an absolute stinker.

Calzaghe would have beaten him with ease, Eastman was far too lazy to win that fight.

"William Joppy too good for Howard Eastman" - except when they actually boxed, when Eastman was too good for him.
