Its been for a while not allowed to drink alcahol inside the place where the boxing takes place

but lately i see its now allowed

when did this change ?

and what exactly is the rule with this now ?

does anyone know ?

i dont mean that it wasnt allowed in the venue

i mean that you couldnt take your pint to your seat

but now it seems you can

????

I think it depends on the venue, I remember you couldn't at the york hall (unless it's changed) but you could at Wembley Arena. I really don't see the problem with it.

Most places iv been too, they wont let you take beer to your seat, probably just beacause at small shows there scared of drinks getting launched about, Cans like what they sell at robin park wigan and the olympia in liverpool and bolton have a bit of weight in them so you could easily throw it some distance. The last time i went the m.e.n was for khan and barrera and im pretty sure we wasnt allowed to take our drinks to our seats there either. cant remember 100%

Like said above it seems to be a venues choice. Last visit to York Hall and they still wouldn't let you out of the bar area. Nottingham was fine for allowing it anywhere except from the looks of it inner ringside. o2 I've been allowed it only when I went in the nose bleed seats.

Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol) Act 1985 ?
So if you've had it yid you could get a life sentence !!!!! ;;-)
Seriously in my several years of boxing attendance can't recall one where it was allowed.
Might have sneaked one in, but ......

Last time I went boxing in the U.K Fury Chisora Wembley Arena we was allowed to take drinks back to our seat. Here in N.Z it's all good as well

liverpool arena, sheffield arena and nottingham arena are 3 that allow you to take drinks to your seats.

I think I've seen people doing it at the 02, but I could be wrong.

i went to see Haye v Enzo there and we couldn't drink in our seats (Alchoholic anyway) hence why there were 400 million people drinking round the edges throughout.

I thought it was BBB of C that brought rule out due to crowd trouble, are you sure that it is not just individuals breaking the rules ?

ditto, it caused a lot of problems.

I think that's possibly why it's been relaxed at certain venues. don't think I've been back to the 02 since so can't say for sure.

Its definately allowed at The O2. I am a bit of an expert on this.

It's supposed to be a board rule but like the op I've also noticed that drinking in the stands has increased in recent months.

Personally I'm all for it. Being able to drink while watching sport has its risks but look at the way it has enabled crowds to swell at darts events.

The board have relaxed the rule but alcohol must be decanted into a plastic receptacle. Iirc the promoter must apply to the board before hand. The board still insist that the bar or serving area must be in a seperate room/area to where boxing is taking place. It was the Foster v McCraken fight that set the presedent for a ban on drinking at your seats if memory serves me correct.

I had VIP tickets at White Hart Lane and they served beer up until kick off, again at half time, and then not again until the match ended. The bloke said it was the law, but he was Dutch and had his own interpretation of the said law, thankfully.

Often drank in the corridors at the big shows, NEC, 02, Wembley etc.

Football is different as I think its in view of the pitch you are not allowed to drink (at football league grounds). Thats why its nice to watch the odd game abroad where your fine to drink on the terraces etc.

As I say, whenever I've been to arena shows, people drink around the edges (rather than in view of the ring) so I thought there was a common rule across sports in general, rather than being football or boxing specific.

but ive seen people being told they can take drinks in

at several venues over the last 8 or 9 months

i think insider may be right

about the bar area having to be in another room

but in that case it brings me full circle

back to the reason i asked the question

ive seen more and more events at places such as oceana and liquid nightclubs

now id guess the bar is in the main room here

so at those types of venues is drinking banned full stop ?

it would be interesting to get full clarification on this rule

that way spectators know beforehand if they can drink or not

also helps us boxers when selling tickets .

You after apply to the boxing board to be allowed to have drink in a venue

Maybe the rule still stands, but is neglected. I remember at the same time they said all seats had to have the legs strapped together with cable ties but noticed the last venue I was at they wasnt.

Maybe its one for someone who works on the board/knows the rules to conform.

I asked this a couple of years ago because I think the Act was brought in after the crowds behaviour at Minter v Hagler
