He's injured. Is there time to find a decent replacement for Harrison?

Bloody hell, not again! How many times has this happened recently?

This one I can handle. Only if Diego or Casamayor pull out will my weekend be in tatters.

That's a bitch isn't it. I suppose with 10 days notice I would expect them to find a replacement but not one too tough.

Someone like Victor Polo...

Kevin Kelly would shift a few tickets for an easy nights work....

Someone like Bobby Boy Velardez wouldn't surprise me.

Perhaps a Super Bantam coming up in weight? at least they would be able to get to 9st without as much difficulty as fully fledged feathers?

Yeah that's pretty much what I was thinking, in reality.

I was just thinking from a promoters perspective, Kelly is familiar with UK fans, sells a great fight, and would pose no threat to Harrison at all.

How about Nicky Cook? or what about Roy Rutherford - not world class, but okay under the circumstances.

Vuyani Bungu? Had a fight early Feb and won the IBO featherweight bauble. Keeps himself in shape and has a good pedigree. Although Naz took him out early, he is the only one to have done so. Bungu would probably take the fight and is a (reasonably) credible opponent who wouldn't really be a danger to Harrison and would save the promotion from falling through.

Would be recriminations perhaps, if a big and motivated Harrison badly knocked him out but those are the risks you take at short notice. Might be too soon since his last fight though (and a 12-rounder at that).

Good call, not too dissimilar style to Abelyan who like Bungu is a rugged toughnut, the last thing Harrison wants is to get put in with some slick bastard after training for Abelyan.

I agree, the emphasis will definitely be on 'not slick' after the Medina episode.

at such short notice, it would be hard to do much better than Velardez. Considering the circumstances he's acceptable.


The promoter, Gary Shaw, what other(if any) featherweights does he handle?

A long shot might be dane Spend Abazi (WBO #4). Abazi was to defend his WBA intl feather title on march 13th against German Guartos from Spain but Guartos pulled out of the fight.

I'm sure they'll find some WBO stiff to fill in, but Kelly would be a stiff too far.

Michael Gomez would put on a great show I'm sure, and the Scotish fans would love to see that after the Arthur fight.
Ok he's a Jr light - but so is Harrison come fight night. He'd only have to boil down to feather for a few hours to make weight...

Unlikely I know, but I'm sure he'd put on a more exciting fight than the replacement we're likely to end up with.

Look at the latest WBO rankings. It will be somone in the lower half of the top 15.
