I wanted to answer the misconceptions circulating I am looking to bring down the BBBC by working with the Luxembourg Boxing Federation for next month’s David Haye and Dereck Chisora fight. Far from it. I want a strong BBBC with direction, transparency and an understanding of the sport. As a licence holder, I am sick to death of is the way the sport has been administered in this country for the past few years by a small clique. There are some good and honest stewards at the Board, but there are at least four or five so-called ‘senior’ stewards who hold a disproportionate influence and just don’t understand what is going on.

They are totally out of touch with the sport at grassroots and the current TV landscape. It’s no secret that I’m unhappy with chairman and president Charlie Giles over a number of issues.

To force the issue, a petition containing the required 150 signatures from unhappy licence holders is on its way to the Board to call for an extraordinary general meeting to discuss serious issues concerning certain senior stewards and ask for their resignation. It is clear the Board needs to listen to licence holders at the moment. It is a closed shop with antiquated rules and regulations — the licence holders currently have no say in what goes on. The stewards are self-appointed and act without consultation of the licence holders they are there to represent. The Board needs a respected figurehead and a man with some vision.

An ideal and ready-made replacement, once the Olympics are over, would be Seb Coe. Lord Coe was once a steward at the Board, but his role as an MP meant he could not devote all his time to boxing. One hopes the Board will now realise the days of their cosy incestuous club are over and that boxing needs fresh, new leadership. They must ask Lord Coe to step in.

He just wants someone he can manipulate, makes me laugh how he has other licence holders running all over the Country begging people to sign the petition ( even going into dressing rooms shoving the piece of paper under trainers noses as they were warming up their fighters minutes before entering the ring ) I have yet to see you know who ask ANYONE to actualy sign the petition then again if you have mugs doing all your dirty work for you whilst you take all the back patting I suppose you can't blame him.

Perhaps once he cleaned up the board he can then lead a campaign against some of these promotors who do not pay fighters on time!

Have to back Warren on a call for a rehaul of the BBBofC, hopefully this will benefit british boxing longtime.

Great idea. The purse bids process needs an overhaul too. Anyone 'winning' a purse bid and not fulfilling it needs some kind of sanction.

The Board certainly needs a review.

If they've managed to get this much support, fair play - and if this is definitely the required number, due process should be followed. Taffytoon makes some points I've also heard re the lobbying. No wonder they're pushing this through even though Haye v Chisora must be taking up their energy - come July 14th, a lot of those signatories will be subject to the Board's disciplinary process.

I have to agree. There is a lot of dead wood on the stewards panel, old relics who refuse to move with the times. There are some genuinely good guys there too but they are out numbered.

The Insider - Do you think FW would be taking this step, at this time, had the BBBoC approved Haye v Chisora? If the answer is no, does it undermine it? The timing is just too convenient to divorce the two things, IMO.

Regardless, the Board needs a shake up, you're right.

I think this has been on the back burner for a while. I also think a certain persons financial situation is less than equitable. I also think this person now has an ally who has wanted change within British boxing for as long as I can remember. They have been given an opportunity to remedy all these things at once, and boy are they striking while the iron is hot.

Things needed to be changed for sure. Some promotors need their licences withheld so I glad they want changes perhaps a stronger board will do it!

This statement reminds me of Saddam Hussein's lieutenant, when America invaded. He went on tv hourly saying "We have shot down 5 American planes, they're no match for our armies" then "Saddam is leading from the front on foot with a sword, he has killed 18 Americans with his bare hands"

This statement seems sensible on the surface and if a sufficient number of licence holders wish an extraordinary meeting to thrash out concerns they may have , then I would support it .
But as an apparent responsible licence holder I would think that the first step for him would be the cancellation of the 'unlicensed ' show on 14 July . How can he be taken seriously when he organises a show involving the suspended Chisora and the unlicensed Haye on British soil ,authorised by a joke of an organisation such as Luxemburg . Bruce Baker and others can argue till they are blue in the face but Luxemburg as a boxing Federation are a farce . Luxemburg has a population the size of the Isle of Man with possibly less boxers !!!

We can all be certain that behind this move is something which will benefit the man financially .

Lets have the meeting in Aberdeen at 7pm on 14 July .

As a footnote . To be the Chairman of the BBB of C you must be of the utmost integrity( maybe Charles Giles is ? I don't know the man ) . You must show no fear or favour to anyone ,and you must love the sport of boxing . You must realise the THE most important people in the business are the BOXERS and you must be wise enough to realise that anyone who buys you a free drink/meal/hotel room is not doing it because he thinks you're a nice guy- he is doing it to compromise you at some time in future . In particular you must create a gap between yourself and ALL promoters and deal with them formally and most probably in writing at all times . Personally , I would bring back Simon Block as Chairman and as a complete outsider , Bob Mee . Why not ???

Dalcumly, I really hadn't thought of that, but Bob Mee is an excellent call. He might be a little too laid back a character to actually want to do it, but he'd certainly be more qualified than most. Bob as chairman with Robert Smith remaining as general secretary could work. Smith is well liked, by my understanding. Whenever a hear a licence holder complain about the Board, the is generally a 'but Robert's alright' tagged on the end.

I'd also be up for Simon Block as chairman - although I know he'd be surprised to hear me say that. Nobody is perfect and I had a few gripes during his time as general secretary, but he's very experienced and fully qualified. Far more so than Seb Coe, for instance. Coe could only be a figurehead in my opinion, despite his time spent as a steward I very much doubt he has the experience, knowledge or even the unclination to do the job.

dont know who this guy is but the mere mention of seb coe is enough to convince me hes rotten to the core. coe is interested only in his bank balance and has already sold london and the ordinary punters who live there down the river to line his own pockets. scum of the earth.

Better fit certain people put their own house in order before picking holes in others.

A tyrant criticising a regime which has for many years allowed him to be a tyrant by turning a blind eye to his ways while using a jackboot approach to any of this competitors who have only done a modicum of the oppression he has.

DO YOU THINK lord Coe would do it for nothing I beleive he is salaried to the tune of 20k a week at the moment how would the board fund that outlay ?

...... Saddam was hiding down a hole and using 'look alikes' to fulfil his public appearances...... and the iraq navy had turned to 100% submarines.......and their air force had defected........ and their army (mostly the under 14s) were surrendering without so much as a spud gun being fired!!

Yes... But I would urge them to change the way they do things. The sport has changed... There are no superstars. Boxing has become about competition rather then the show.

Fighters need to be applauded for taking risks, not written off for picking up losses and marking time record building fights need to be totally reduced.

I think Steve goodwin and dave Coldwell have the right kind of idea. I think the key is relativity and relationship between fans and fighters. I think that transparency too... The industry has changed, and so has the world around it. Twitter, Facebook, forums... There's no longer anywhere near enough wool to cover everyones eyes.

If a fighter isn't the next joe calzaghe, then who gives a shit. Match him accordingly- give him the best possible career he can and give the fans what they want to see ... Entertaining fights.

The matchroom monopoly has given all the smaller promoters an opportunity to interact and start trying to get fans back into the arenas.
