Congratulations to Lopez, best fight of the year

Lopez was there to win from round one and took alot of punishment but stuck with Ortiz and kept on cracking him back, turned into a battle of wills and Ortiz backed down.... Lopez deserved it, fun fight.

Just as well for ortiz
as sual alvarez would have demolished him if fought that open

well done lopez for persisting and gaining a deserved win

a fighter that didn't have the power to deter ortiz, yet managed to snap his jaw
you couldn't make it up

Does anyone else think that either of these guys would make a good next opponent for kell brook
if kell impresses in his outing next month and raises his stock in the states, both of these guys would make a good opponent for different reasons

i reckon he'd be too good for lopez and could comfortable out point him. lopez could be kells easiest path to a world title
Ortiz would be an excellent name to put on his record regardless of his problems. a fighter with issues that's easy to hit

of course kells title eliminator will make him mandatory with IBF for randall baileys title, a very winnable intro to world level.
But on the off chance it doesn't come off, there could be a potential opponent here for him

Wouldn't say it was fight of the year it was decent. Ortiz quitting yet again he didn't seem too bothered. Well done to Lopez he never gave up and he might end up getting a big fight.

Fantastic fights last night. Looked to me like the corner retired Ortiz tho as he was trying to get past to begin round and was signaling to ref he wanted to box on. Pathetic commentating again from Halling & Watt.

When Kell beats Jones he has to enter a final eliminator with Saldiva then Bailey if he wants the IBF title - Lopez got the WBC silver so means nothing just a better ranking - Mayweather has the title so unless he is stripped cannot see Mayweather vs Lopez maybe a fight with Malinaggi for him.

Think if Khan gets past Garcia and the Bradley/Mayweather fight doesn't come off Ortiz could be first Welterweight opponent for him as he is unpredictable at times but a solid test for anyone.

Yeah but that was after he'd told his corner he had a broken jaw, more a case of "hold me back..( but thanks for getting me out of here.." ) He obviously didn't want to go on, and you cant blame him either - good job we don't have to see a 10-1 Canelo/Ortiz fight now - they should make the Alvarez/Kirkland fight instead.

The Soto bout was wild; the first time I'd seen Matisse; he can fight. I can't really blame Ortiz for bailing out; only he knows how much his jaw hurt; he does has concentration problems though, (the erto bout showed he's got guts). I'm not convinced that Lopez will remain champ for long though imagine he's enjoying his victry. What odds did Lopez have?

No he said to the ref he didnt want to fight on as his jaw was broken. He even said in the post-fight interview that his corner wanted him to continue but he said he just couldnt as it was too painful. Ortiz is a talented fighter but he doesnt have a real winners mentality which you need to be a true elite fighter.

Yeah i watched the showtime broadcast, he had blood dripping out of his mouth which was pretty nasty to be fair. I remember Abraham fighting through that with Miranda though so you can look at it in different ways I guess.

Yeah I thought of Abraham continuing, but that was a real brutal horror show ( much earlier too ) with his corner man pleading with him to carry on, and AA's brother looking on in horror - thinking is this really worth it ? And I don't think it was.

Yeah its funny you say that because i rewatched that fight the other day and it looked like Abraham wanted to quit but someone outside the ring *not sure who it was as the camera didnt pick them up* seemed to be ordering him to continue almost against his will. It was barbaric fight thats for sure.

ortiz should stick to welter and abandon any ideas of moving to light middle

I put a few quid on Lopez on Saturday evening at 6-1 with William hills. I'm normally a sucker for putting a couple of quid on a rank outsider but this time it actually paid off which was a nice change for my bets!! Wish I'd put more on now but hey ho.

Was a couple of good fights I thought.
