The bbbc have a ban on all alchohol being consumed in arena's during boxing shows. I feel that now that many small hall promoters are being forced to go it alone without TV backing this rule should no longer be in force.

We need to keep shows busy for boxing to have any chance in the future.

That time we all said was coming when people got too greedy, and marking time matches were filling up 90% of shows is here and tbh it's not going to cut it. It's a losing product.

Boxing has a chance now to try to appeal to the masses again but it's going to take a few years in the wilderness before it finds it's way to TV again. What other changes need to be made?

MY town they all drinkers and when ya sell them a ticket they as about the drinks some go as they loyal the big drinkers won't

AFAIK the consumption of alcohol in the arena is now allowed by the BBBOC. All the promoter has to do is arrange it with the venue ask for permission from the board and make the necessary stewarding and security arrangements.

drinking is allowed in venues with the consent of the police and venue AFAIAA

What Iv heard from our northeast board if it has food at the venue ie 3 course meal you can have drinks in the hAll don't know if it's the case

It used to be so you could class it as a mixed show. You could have a few tables at ringside with some crisps and sandwiches on and you could get waitress service bringing beer to these tables.

It is not limited to dinner shows.

Seriously, I've never heard of the 3 course meal ruling.

OK, if it's needed then fair enough. But be aware that drunken violence and obnoxious behaviour puts lots of people off coming to boxing as well.

I do agree- something needs to be done to help shows attract people - but it's hard to say what is best.

Possibly, just maybe, people could drink in moderation?

I would be dead against this at the arena shows. There's already enough alcohol/drug related nuisances without more alcohol making things worse.

How many people I wonder, would still go to a boxing show if there was no alcohol available at all. Is the drinking as big a part of the night out as the boxing is ? The number thronging the bars before the main event at the bigger shows seems to suggest people find having a jar or two preferable to the action in the ring.
Not being judgemental, just asking

I've been to shows in the UK where there's been no bar. I have to say I personally felt a little peeved but it didn't ruin my night and often I drive anyway so don't drink more than 1 or 2 but it's nice to be able to have the choice.

Having a relaxed approach to alcohol might stop people binge drinking before the main event.

Regardless, Its not hard to pour a pint into a large Pepsi cup and lid.

Nor is it much aggro to take a hip sized spirit in, then splash some into a coke or lemonade sold at the venue.

Wembely Arena and the o2 Arena and the Motorpoint in Sheffield have all sold booze in the last 18 months which you could take to your seats.i can`t rember if the capital fm Arena sold did because i was pissed before i got to the Arena and only sobered up abit after the Framton fight

it did, so does the liverpool echo arena and just about every other venue I've seen boxing at in the UK other than one or two small leisure centres.
