I'm semi-hopeful about Wilder but I can't help thinking that when his advantages are taken away then his first loss won't be long coming. He's not exactly rushing himself.

How about this El Paso fellow David Rodriguez? Impressive record, is he any good?

He's vulnerable and his team want to maximize their return; potential opponent Jason Barnett was offered $7,000, so Wilder is probably making ok money without taking risks. He's also building impressive figures, which could help him earn bigger paydays when his team are less risk averse.

I don't buy the ''he's getting experience and working on his skills" claim; it's clearly a pretense when he's exclusively facing old, shot, and overweight clubfighters who don't test him in any respect.

His opposition hasn't been the greatest Wilder. He could be doing with stepping up in his next fight someone decent.

Had I known in 1995 that one day we would look to men with actual Peter McNeeley-style records as potential 'hopefuls' I would have given up on the game right then and there.

I'm afraid that's pretty much what things have come to. I wasn't really serious about Rodriguez but I'd like to see him tested at least, for curiosity value.

Bermane Stiverne isn't too bad, wherever he is.

He's not very good, he looks fragile as hell to me too.

The American HW's are going to just sit out while the Klitschkos retire, as are many Europeans in fairness.

The division is just an awful mess.

Wlad could probably fight until he's about 60 and still be champion, the way things are going.

Heavyweight scene is a joke at the moment, none of them are anywhere near active enough to develop

I actually talked him into getting in touch with Eddie Hearn about Prizefighter on Twitter and he seemed well up for it and they spoke but as the previous poster said I don't think Golden Boy were too keen. They'll take their time with him as he only got into the sport when he turned 20 but he is a good prospect very athletic, rangy at 6ft 7 and has shown a lot of power in his fights thus far. The only question mark I'd have with him is for a guy at 6ft 7 he only weighs in around the 215-220 mark and how he would compete with the giants that would have 30-40 lbs on him is open for debate.

I think 'talent' is the issue here, not weight. A 215 lb Tyson would have sent these 240lb fat boys and lumbering goons flying. They would drop from exhaustion versus a 210 lb Holyfield.

That's fair enough but going up against a well conditioned 240-250 Klitschko sometime in the future is a different proposition than your "fat boys and lumbering goons". Wilder is closer to Cruiserweight right now so the pure strength differential would be too much too overcome IMO.
