Sources from the WBO claim Scott Harrison will be defending his WBO featherweight title against Colombian Walter Estrada, 24-1 (17), a southpaw like original opponent William Abelyan.

Doesn't seem a bad record.

Obviously no names on it but as Teddy Atlas would say - with that many stoppages he at least must be a busy fighter when he gets in there which means it might be a good fight while it lasts.

The other established records site, boxing-records.com, has a few more fights for him at 26-2 [18].

There's a voice in the back of my head telling me that Walter Estrada is one of the guys Naz sparred with during his preparations for the Barrera fight.

Who here can clarify.

Annoyingly enough, the other records site says he fought three times last year, with his last fight in September 2003 being a 10-round decision win over a fellow Colombian.

Dan, wouldnt have thought Naz would have south paw sparring in preparation for Barrera...

However every other aspect of his preparation was wrong so maybe

Excuse my extreme ignorance as i have been away for a few days but what happened to Abelyan? I was really looking forward to seeing him, he was very confident in his Boxing Monthly interview.

Unfortunately he pulled out with an unspecifide injury.

Now specified as a shoulder injury.

just had a look at this kids record.................its highly suspect and I'm sure they could have got someone better.

Walter Estrada is not rank by anybody in the featherweights and only the IBF has him at 12 in the super bantamweights.
His best wins are over third level Ubadel Soto, Juvenal Berrio & Armando Cordoba, with a loss to a journeyman opponent named Jose Portillo. 8)
At best he can only be considered 3rd best Colombian behind Victor Polo & Oscar Leon, both of whom he has avoided.

Why wasn’t Polo chosen? He’s ranked #2 by the WBO and Estrada isn’t even ranked.
Oh yeah, I forgot...Polo has already beaten Albeyan!

The Cordoba KO3 win in Panama looks good, as the guy had just outpointed an ex-world champ.
So maybe this Estrada carries a punch?
But other than that it's a bunch of no-hopers. Then losing to a 2 fight novice three fights ago....oh dear.

And Boxrec have him outside the top 50 at featherweight.........

Says he's never seen a video of Scot, and knows nothing about him either, but is coming to win ( surprise there ).

Been boxing since he's 13 years old he says. Looks like an Aztec Indian.

His ever changing record is now 20 wins with 10 ko's - according to Sky!

This guys getting worse by the day.

Yes, it's hard to give this guy any kind of a chance against Harrison in Glasgow. Even Warren virtually admitted the Colombian will stick around for a few rounds, then get stopped. After all, how can a good clubfighter expect to go 12 rounds with a rampaging feather like Scott Harrison on eight days' notice! As Blue said, Victor Polo, WBO number two and a man who stopped Scott's original opponent William Abelyan in a round, should have been the Colombian they brought over.

In an article today announcing Walter Estrada’s last hour title opportunity, Manuel Ortega Ponce of the newspaper El Heraldo de Barranquilla, writes, (Translated from Spanish by yers truly.)

The management of Harrison looked for the Colombian Víctor Polo, classified second. This second option was discarded since Polo had been absent from the gymnasium. Although Polo insisted to his manager, Billy Chams, to sign the fight, Chams did not accept. In return, Chams suggested the name of Walter Estrada, a native púgil of San Jose de Canalete, Cordova, that was preparing to fight this coming Saturday. The proposal was accepted and the proceedings for the trip of Estrada were made avalable which took place Sunday. Walter Estrada has a record of 28 triumphs (26 by KO), 2 defeats and 1 draw. To Scotland Estrada traveled in company of Alvaro Mercado and Alberto Agámez.

Dumb ass Polo, at his age he should not be absent from the gym.
