Any ideas on any half decent friendly pubs near Upton Park to go for a beer and some food before the fight on Saturday? Although I live in London I've never been around that area before so would be good to gets some views on the decent places to go.

Not being funny mate, but when you go on Saturday you will realise why you have never been to the area before!

My advice would be that the transport links to Upton Park are pretty good, go to a pub elsewhere and get the tube in, you will then have your pick of decent pubs that do some grub.

Would personally get off at Tower Hill walk across to St. Katherines dock, have a nice beer an grub in the Dickens inn overlooking the marina, then back on District line couple of stops to Upton Park... Enjoy ....

This is good advice actually, and when you get off at Upton park eventually, just walk to the ground and don't stop.

Jesus lads, what an advert for Upton Park you all are! The local tourist board will be delighted!

Nothing there in terms of crumpet & classy wine bars. The area (pubs) is very busy when West Ham utd are playing. But for drinking I wouldn't really bother. There're a few pubs in that area, but it's very rough 'n' ready. If you like your charlie and are used to the "wide boys" then you'll love it. The Black Lion boozer (West Ham ABC) in Plaistow[/color] is good and the best out of the bunch, is not too far!

Haha...felt obliged to write something on this thread. Clearly our boxing friend here has never been anywhere near upton park. One thing for sure is that you are guranteed a better undercard just by going into a few local boozers before the fight!

if you go to east ham high street you'll find the hammers pub it's about a 15 min walk from the ground you'll has a good night in there mate

Be careful being over zealous in your support for Haye while out and about...Haye = Big Millwall Fan = West hams arch rivals.

Cant remember the name of it but there was a decent little boozer on the corner of the road just down from upton park, rough and ready but the landlady was spot on, I some how ended up in there with my misses and she put a Kahn fight on for us.

If you fancy a bit of grub, try the Kebabish Grill on Green Street. Proper Lahori curry, and the chicken/naan bread is the absolute business.

I'm not sure there's many pubs in East Ham left, there's plenty of chicken huts.

dont be too hard on the old east end great atmospheric place in my opinion - get off the tube at east ham district line turn left walk all the way down the high st denmark arms at the junction with barking rd, walk up barking rd to the central and continue up to the iconic boleyn pub, which is next to the ground- 3 great pubs anfd theres other scattered along the way- COYI

Slightly off topic of the pubs and drinking, but could do with some advice from people who know the area - I'm planning on driving to the ground, good idea? Any advice? Parking near by?

Oh and I'm going with my missus.

I expect the vast majority of the 30k will be supporting Haye so I wouldn't worry about that.

For the record he's not a big Millwall fan, he has said numerous times in the past he's not that into football but as a local lad likes to see Millwall do well. There are plenty of Millwall that follow him and due to the location of this fight it may get a bit lively. However your average person who 'supports' haye will not be attacked just for doing so.

youngrell park in a side street away from the football ground, the olympic parking restrictions/permits havent started yet - i used to live in frinton rd sat nav e6 3ha no parking restrictions in that road everyone parked their on match days about 10 minutes walk to ground - there are lots of others that maybe nearer as well enjoy the fight

Theres nothing wrong with the Boleyn pub on the corner of the Barking road and Green St. If you get off the tube at Upton Park and walk down Green St towards the ground you'll come across the Queens on the right hand side by the market. Thats alright as well. You wont find any gastro pubs, or trendy places but they are proper pubs. On match days there are a couple of pie and mash stalls ask Johnny Greaves !
The Boleyn usually sell pies and stuff outside the pub.

Thats a good pub... get off at east ham, come out the station, turn left. keep walking straight on, over the lights, Hammers pub is on your right across the road.
to get from there to the ground, come out the pub, turn left. walk back to the set of lights you crossed over, but this time turn left. walk straight down you wont miss the ground.

Wakefield isnt bad either mind you
