Norton won fair and square in an entertaining slugfest.

People forget how entertaining late-career Norton was. Having slowed down but still possessing top level athleticism and skills, his wars with Holmes, Stephens (while it lasted), Cobb, and LeDoux were great. Also, the clean, heavy punches he took in all of those fights while still coming forward dispels the ridiculous "glass chin" claim that gets thrown around . .

So many folks these days either dismiss Norton because he was ( just... ) outside of the elite 3 of the era or they came around later & just repeat stuff that they've heard or read about him from others.
Ignoring the fact that someone with a "glass jaw" or a "weak chin" would have gone down repeatedly against the likes of Ali, Holmes, Quarry, Kirkman etc.. But, Norton didn't.
True, he got chilled early by Foreman, Shavers & Cooney, but those individuals were absolute MONSTER punchers that have gone down in history as having three of the very best KO ratios in all of boxing history. That Norton was stopped by them is not indicative of his usual durability. Even his first loss, early in his career was to a well above average puncher in Jose Luis Garcia. Which he later avenged.
So, was Nortom a Chuvalo or an Ali in the whiskers department? No. But then again, neither was anyone else. Bonavena came close, but even he suffered a KO to Ali, so...

Norton's supposed weak chin has long been one of the biggest myths in boxing. Cobb had mediocre power, but he threw a lot of punches. Someone with a glass jaw would have been stopped. He didn't have much defense which Norton was able to exploit often enough even at that late stage of his career.

To answer this, lets do a round by round judging of the fight.
