dont forget the other brother Terry who was Irish champion and fought for a European title.

I believe Eamonn Jnr is very close to turning pro as well

Lucky? Out of 7 rounds completed Magee won 5 and one was scored even. This was the official scorecard of the referee and boxing news. Also the fight was in Delaneys backyard. Hardly lucky

Delaney quit on his stool, that's all you need to know to realise Magee won that fight

Delaney was dead at the weight. I watched Terry Magee fight a few times and he threw a lot of shots but lacked power.

Delaney bein dead at the weight is an excuse. The guy was undefeated in 20 fights and 8 weeks earlier had stopped an opponent to win the WBO Inter-continental title so weight was not an issue. Magee was 10/1 to win and fought like a possessed man. Styles make fights and Magee at his best was always gonna b too busy for Delaney.

Mate if you new what Garry went threw to get the weight off it would shock you, He was 13st 8lbs the day before the fight and that was when you weighed in on the day, The only reason he took the fight was he was told "win this and you've got a massive money fight with Mike McCallum for the WBC Light Heavyweight Title" (put it this way the money on offer Garry could of retired there and then) Garry had struggled to make weight for a long time before this fight and Magee new it, but fair play to Noel he took the gamble and it paid off for him, Noel was a good solid pro and me and my family have so much respect for him, It was sad he didn't hold on to the title for longer but thats boxing for you,
Garry is due for release in 2015 so not long now he's doing fine and just cracking on best he can, he's still training hard and is now around 17st 7lbs with hardly any fat on him (remember he's 6ft 4ins tall)

I suppose wit a dangling carrott like a WBC title shot he had to take the fight. But Barry hearn and Garry were so sure that Noel would be stopped within a couple of rounds especially Magee lost to Tiozzo 8 weeks earlier in 4. So when the fight got into the second half Delaney realised he wasnt goin newhere n threw in the towel. Garry had some good title shots after at cruiser and heavyweight but never had the same success, but a good solid pro all the same. Magee lost to Piper 5 months later in a fight which was a great performance. Glad Garry is gettin out soon n wish him all the best.

Thats what i mean mate, Garry just wanted to get that World Title and have to make the Weight one more time, even if he lost he would of still cashed in, Garry said even if he did somehow beat McCallum he would of vacated the title straight away but would of been in good position to challenge for the crusierweight title ?? there is a lot that goes on behind closed doors in the boxing world and i'd love to write about it in a book,
i think garry's best performance was against Sebastian Rothmann for the WBU title in South Africa even though Garry lost the fight he very nearly did not fight that night Garry was was going to come home after learning about the death of my brother Marks 5 week old baby and was in bit's (as you would be) but he had a long chat with Mark on the phone and decided to just go for it i like to think that even though he lost the fight that night he did himself and my family proud, not many people can say they boxed for a world title (twice) even if it was a miner one lol

Absolutely it is a great achievement to fight for any version of a world title. That was impressive to go ahead with that fight after such a devastating incident. I am actually Noel Magees son so like urself i knw wat goes on behind the scenes and how much it means to be a champion. My dad only ever set out to be an Irish chsmpion when he first started boxing just like his older brother Terry and he went on to win 3 including beating Steve Collins for the senior title. And all he ever wanted to do as a professional was to win a major title. And after coming close to winning the British title against core and losing european and 2 other title fights he was at the last chance saloon against Garry. He had told his trainer that he wud retire if he lost. So thats y that fight means so much to him and the family. Wit ur uncle Mark being a successful amatur and pro and my uncles bein successful especially Eamonn, we have two of the most successful boxing families in British / Irish boxing :)

Glad to see he is OK. The story obviously didn't sound good...would be nice to here his side

it was simler with my brothers garry and mark all they wanted was the british title, they never managed to win it but at least there name is on there for ever

Good luck to him. Whatever happened he is paying for it...just hope he get's a chance when he comes out, a lot of knowledge there, shame to waste it
