Robin Deakin calls it a day

According to Twitter Robin has jacked it in due to the BBoC looking to suspend his licence due to amount of losses.
Alongside the likes of Johnny Greaves,Sid Razak. Robin is one of the characters that keep Boxing going so it seems a "little bit" harsh that they've done this yet only given a drugs cheat in Macarenelli a 6 month ban.

hes only been stopped 11 times though, i remember deakin saying he was born with one of his feet twisted backwards so he could never set or balance himself properly, and says without thathis record would probably be better

Mac isnt a drugs cheat in reality

He is a tough journeyman but the likes of Greaves, Ryan Clark and Al hamidi etc they get the occasional win or draw but Rockin Robin has only won his first fight.

Clarke himself only has 3 wins in 60 fights and one of those was an upset in his last fight, and with journeymen we know that not all of those "losses" are really losses

Has he admitted to using a banned substance? Yes. Drugs cheat then.

Isn't he only a drugs cheat if he took it on purpose? Did he take it on purpose?

He took an over the counter legal supplement that had a banned substance in it. Yes he was naive and should of read what was in it more thoroughly but he didnt intentionally cheat! Also if you read the report *which I have* from the UK anti-doping agency the experts said that the amount consumed wasnt enough to have any kind of performance enhancing effect.

How do you compare Deakin with Maccarinelli???????? Completely different issues.

My view is that journeymen who aren't competitive need saving from themselves. I remember listening to a conversation about Deakin not too long ago, where they were concerned because, unlike most journeymen, his defence was poor, so he tended to take hard head shots every fight.

He's a young man with a lot of life in front of him. Getting beaten up every fortnight isn't good for him. The Board do things on a case by case basis, as they should do.

He took something to help him loss weight right. shane had to train hard to make the 14'4 limit that is a unfair advantage in my book. Dont matter if it was performace enhancing he had a un fair advantage shane should get is title back and fight made void.

The substance wasn't banned as a weight-loss drug and was legal when used "out of competition". So if it had showed up in a test out of competition he would not have failed. The substance can be used as a stimulant so is banned in competition. However, UKAD accepted that the levels recorded were so low, it could not have had any affect as a stimulant.

As Enzo weight nearly 2 stone less for his previous fight, he clearly did not need to take it to make weight.

Alright mate, I agree that the the result should be changed to a no-contest and Shane should get his title back. Im just saying that I dont think Enzo was intentionally cheating. To my knowledge he has never had any problems making the cruiserweight limit and has even said he was more suited to being a light heavy as he didnt have to really try to make weight. Im not sure he was trying to lose weight per se, the thing he took was a fat burner so it could of been a case of vanity as much as anything and wanting to be ripped and not have much fat on his body as he's been criticised in the past for being a bit fleshy.

Maccarinelli is a bloody idiot for taking a substance advertised in some 'combat' magazine. Now he's trying to sue the company, or the magazine or something. Yawn.

Boxers should get any substance they want to take thoroughly checked out, end of story. It's always somebody else's fault it seems. He fully deserves his ban, and McPhilbin deserves the belt back.

Robs a great lad and has a wicked sense of humour. He does tend to ship a bit of punishment these days so perhaps its for the best.

Match a few journeymen together, then they are sure to get a win on their record.

He might not be everyones cuppa but thats a bit harsh. Robin gives his all, I'm sure he's more sorry than most that he's not an elite fighter. If you have an issue with his record/attitude/and the fact it is allowed, then it goes way beyond Robin so you might want to ease up a bit on the disabled kid who was never supposed to walk :TU:

My post was vague. He erupted on twitter at me for nothing. He showed himself to me to be a complete arsehole. I'll never diss a journeyman's credentials, but I certainly won't praise this tit.

He flips at people on Twitter all the time.

He got involved in a conversation between two ESB'ers and when one of them said intercontinental titles are bullshit he went nuts and accused him of knowing fornicate all.

It's the right decision by the board to pull his licence anyway, given that he takes a beating every time he's in there against novices.

A proper journeyman knows how to look after himself, he's from the Leeds United school of defence. Brave kid, but shouldn't be fighting anymore.

I like him but he does let himself down now and then in some of his comments. Robin's not had an easy ride in or out of the ring and admits he is embarrassed about his record. He told me he tries to laugh it off. See that’s the thing, far from basking in the glory of the general public due to his professional boxer status, his record goes before him and more often than not, he gets slated for it.

Apparently FW signed him up as a pro off the back of a glowing reference from Steve Collins, who'd seen Robin in an amateur fight. There was a time when he made a real effort to turn it around, after signing for Mickey Helliet. No longer would he be the journeyman he was apparently told. Then the phone rang for a fight 3 or 4 days away, Robin doesn't turn down fights, he was back to the journeyman mould before you could tweet Rockin Robin.

Robin has a clubbed foot; if you watch him fight you can see it clearly hampers his movement. He was born with his legs the wrong way around and wasn't supposed to walk. Without betraying something he told me, you will have to trust me that he had a difficult childhood and an interesting family.

I desperately wanted him to get a few wins, but the desire that was there has drained away and Robin gets hit far too much and the signs are saying, even screaming 'enough'.

I hope he copes well away from the sport he loves, and respect him for not letting some pretty difficult circumstances prevent him from trying to forge a career in the sport he loves. It hasn't set the world alight, he hasn't made his fortune, but he definitely has given everything for most of his career. If we don't respect that, who does?

Too lazy to look up his record but didnt Robin have Vinnie Mitchell in all kinds of trouble including putting him down then eased off and for me let Vinnie win? Think it was at the 02 as me and Poncey followed him in from the car park. Felt sorry for him was going to offer to carry his bags for him.
