with the rise and rise of some of Australias talent among the pro ranks reaching world status and an ever increasing numbers contesting world titles,i see boxing in this part of the world in a healthy state.so i dare ask the question,is this success in the pro ranks having an y influence in the lead up to the london olympics and what are the hopes of ending the gold drought for Australian boxing.

Not sure what our chances are as I don't follow the amateurs as closely as I should, but I am proud to say that a relation of mine, Mick Daly, is coaching our boys in London. Very proud!

Hi Flogger
You got it the wrong way round!
The quality has improved with am boxers working to win medals at Major international comps and not just working to win a team jacket then turn pro.
Also with the support and identification programs from BAI and ASC.
Mundine and Green at their peaks would have trouble with either the 75kg Jessie Ross and 81kg Damian Hooper.
Remember Geales fight with Mundine

Go billy ward!! He is a chance of a medal at 49kg he only has to win 3 fights for bronze I was told by mick before he left, hopefully he draws someone that willing to fight toe to toe because that will work into his favour as he loves to stand there and trade..I'm 81kg and I reckon he hits nearlly as hard!! Go on YouTube and have a look at billy and mick daly channel 10 interview..come on Aussies!!!

wishing well to the Australian contingent-- sadly no Kiwis -- by that I mean no men but thankfully at least two women fighters. All the best!

g"day boxboxerboxing i"m not sure i got it wrong about the ams.i"ve never had any dought about some of the amateur boxer them self comming out of oz.my problem has been with mind set of some of the officials and there attitudes and treatment to the boxers when they go into camps for preperation .i remember back mid 90"s sitting in a room with some boxing nsw officals and just listerning to some of there views about the development of boxing at international levels inparticular the olympic development and to be honest when i left that meeting the only thing i got out of it was that some pretty heavy timber would have to be axed befor success could be achieved.it is nice to read that there is finally some recognition and development happening.
g"day brute yea i saw that fight balla won tough fight to score, but good result the young kid against a much older and stronger opponent 16 all winning on the count back.unlucky for ross though, from what i saw last night some tough competition amongst the middleweights.

good win too. lost the first round by a point, drew the second by landing a shot in the last 2 secs of the round and then had a terrific third round.
the noise in the audience was the loudest i've heard yet from the fights i've watched.

i had heard a lot about hooper,i just hope he straightens his act up, he did everything you teach a kid not to do,i wish him well but i think he,s ego will let him down,3 boys, hooper ,ross and woods look like they came out of the same stable,if not the ais has changed their styles,no left hands, no balance and no defence,i wish the rest of the boys all the best.

1 win -1 loss, young ward ran into a hot one, horn had a good win, what i liked about both boys is that they, especially Ward as he was in with a very smart fighter, they didn,t lose their cool ,no silly punches and good balance, good to watch, young Ward will only get better, and i hope Horn keeps the Aussie flag flying, all the best

Good sports people have discipline - I have heard some about Hooper - dropped his pants at an international tournament, keeps fellow olympians awake and many lodge complaints about his behaviour as they cannot sleep, and to top it off he wears an inappropriate shirt to the ring, !! how much bullshit can this clown get away with because "he had a difficult upbringing", sounds like he was never given a kick in the ass when he did something wrong. If the olympic committe had any balls they would have pulled hooper up on the way to the ring and sent him back home immediately for his behaviour - then he might have learned a lesson.

i"m surprised at the large number of southpaws around these days.a large %of world class boxers at amateur and pro levels are now southpaw,is this because the orthodox boxer is struggling to come to terms with their angles.i"ve even notice in the gym i train at that the southies there are controlling the ring during sparring with better control with the foot possition and ballance.the orthodox boxers realy are struggling to adapt.i remember having to travel far and wide just to find a southpaw to spar.but adapt we did perhaps the trainers need to up there games and come up with a solution.your thoughts.

It wasn't that long ago if you where left handed a trainer would still make you fight orthodox. Oscar De La Hoya Is left handed.
