RIP: Colin Betty

I just heard that South Australian boxing great Colin Betty, has passed away.
This is tragic news, he was natures gentleman, and a great servant to the sport for decades in South Australia.
I last worked with Col in Adelaide back in July last year, when Dianever Orcales successfully defended his PABA Super Bantam title against Dean Livanos.
I spoke with him just a month ago, to see if he was available to work the up-coming PABA title defence of Dianever next month.
What a tragic loss for SA Boxing and boxing overall, he was a long time member of the ANBF in South Australia, and a National ratings committee member, one of the very few you could trust, he trained some very good fighters during his time, he was a current Judge, and all round good bloke.
Condolences to his family.
RIP Colin Betty, you were a very decent and great man.
Brad

Was that Colin Beatty whose last fight was against Bob Dunlop in 1967?

I can't say for sure Brute, but i highly doubt it, Colin Betty was a smaller guy, and no where near a heavyweight.
Plus Colin's surname was Betty, not Beatty.
Gees it's a tragic shame, he was truly one of natures gentleman, a very fair, honest and humble guy, who looked after a lot of Indigenous kids, at his gym in Wakefield street Adelaide, but i think he lived in Kenton Valley via Gumeracha.
There was nothing he would not do, to help someone more disadvantaged than himself.

That was Colin Betty that fought Bob Dunlop, & he used to weigh around 13 stone for the fights he had in the 1960's.
Maybe , whoever put his record in boxrec thought that no boxer would ever be called Betty & that it was really Beatty.

The man Boxrec named as "Beatty" was a South Australian who fought over a wide range of weights.

Hof, If that is correct and can be confirmed, I am happy to change it.
I must admit i did not think it was the real Colin Betty, and you probably may have more knowledge than i do, and your right, at 13 stone, they were heavyweights back then,
Because in those times, there was NO Super Middleweight, NO Cruiserweight, just Middleweight, Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight.
So your probably on the mark, I will check with a couple of my mates in Adelaide and let you all know, provided they know as well.
Cheers Brad

I trained with Colin and Nermin at the ASG gym in Adelaide from late 2008-end 2009 and the news of his passing was very saddening.
Colin was such a good natured, big hearted man that always walked around the gym with a huge smile on his face, a story to tell and was always interested to hear your stories too. Such a warm, genuine man that I could never have faulted. Even though he wasn't the head trainer there at the time he still grabbed the mitts, cornered when sparring, gave advice at the drop of a hat.
Boxing SA lost a great, great man who even only knowing a year or so, had a huge impact on me.
