Both men achieved their goal of being 'world' heavyweight champion, both were small at the weight. both can bang and both have slightly questionable chins.

personally... i think my money would have been on hide, controversial i know but at his peak i feel he might have put haye away. i dont think hide ever got the recognition he deserved, we cant say that haye fought a higher calibre of opponent than hide.

what do you fellas think?

Herbie had fast hands and good power, but fell apart when hurt. I would also say his chin was worse than Haye's. At heavyweight Haye's defence has been good and hasn't looked chinny yet. Perosonally I think Haye would knock him out in 2-3 rounds. Herbie was a bully and Haye isn't the type to be bullied. Would be a good fight, but I can see a Haye Vs Enzo affair.

How has Hide got the better chin? Absolutely no way would Hide go 12 rounds with Wlad. Haye has been stopped once, on his feet.

He got dropped about five times against Bowe and Vitali destroyed him in two! He stopped a completely shot Tony Tucker in Norwich. The location alone tells you how much that fight meant.

what an exciting fight no way would go past 6 rounds and wouldnt mind betting both tasting the canvas, i think haye has a slightly better chin and both exciting punchers with haye breaking him down in the end like he did with chisora.

Haye has a better chin for sure, Hide was nearly blown over by punches that missed the target on several occasions.

I just think that with Hide having the speed advantage and was more solid technically he'd get the job done. Haye's guard is wide open, someone quick enough could capitalise.

Whoever hits who on the chin first wins this, given Haye's awfully low output I think he'd be put to sleep early. Probably in the first round.

Haye has a low output when he chooses to. Wlad, Valuev...er, Audley...that's it really.

As for Hide knocking out world champs? He knocked out veterans way past it. Ruiz was a world champion. What was Mormeck? He was the current undisputed world champion when Haye knocked him out.

Haye knocks Hide out. Hide wasn't anything to write home about. His chin was poor too.

Herbie was fast and could punch because of that speed. However Haye is a bigger, better version of him. Not to mention he has similair speed and power and rarely gets hit flush nowadays.

Hide was a bully, as mentioned and Haye would simply not put up with that. Rude awakening for Herbie, in this one. Haye KO's him flat.

This. Haye hits too hard for herbie, would be fun while lasted though.

its amazing that people have not really compared these 2 before (maybe im wrong?) seems though we have a bit of a split decision on who wins, hide was fast and powerful, it would be a good fight. alright saying tucker was over the hill etc but no one did him like herbie did him, not even LL.

Bowe and Klitchsko both destroyed him so not sure how they add to the case for Hide or if Hide's whiskers were a case for him either

Agreed, Haye stops Hide, too strong mentally and slightly better in every department physically.

Hide only beat one, one, ranked heavyweight in his whole career, and that was a 10 fight novice Michael Bentt who was suffering serious neurological problems. Tony Tucker was a 38 year old, overweight, unranked, drug addled shadow of himself. Bowe and Klitschko pummeled him. Hide talked the talk but never beat anyone of note, never contested a major world title and ended up quivering on the floor in tears whenever a world class fighter hit him back.

I'm no Haye fan, but David is too much of everything for Herbie. Even when hurt David is dangerous - when Hide is hurt he cries and soils himself.

How big was his entourage?

Hide wouldn't have lasted 3 rounds with Haye IMO.

As much as I've rooted for Hide down the years, I've had to concede that he lacked strength as a heavyweight, had overrated power and a pretty limited range of punches.

Don't think anyone could have much faith in a pick either way. Two very powerful, fast handed but vulnerable fighters. Dead easy to envision either getting chinned.

Big, big difference is that Haye knows how to execute a fight plan based on his strengths and weaknesses.

This is true in fairness, though SNV isn't anywhere near what Bowe and Klitschko were.

I dunno.... I just think Haye gets a little too much credit for beating who he's beaten.

Hide wasn't a great by any means, far from it but he was quick and dangerous... he'd probably go right at Haye from the first bell, whilst Haye would be looking for the opportunity to land the right.

It's a shame that Haye seemingly fell out with boxing, it was all there for him in 2008 and despite earning a packet he's not achieved what I feel he could have.

That's why I have a bit of an axe to grind with him.
