mines has got to be jim rosenthal presenting with adam smith and jim watt commentating then spencer oliver and jamie moore as the pundits

Ian Darke and Glen Mcrory = dream team.

Glen McCrory never brought anything to the booth - amazed he lasted so long. Darke seemed to know far more about what was going on in the ring than Glen, who was the ex-pro. He just would blindly agree with Ian and needed insight dragged out of him.

Ian Darke is the best ever as far as British commentators, stylish, professional, critical, has always done his homework and only starts shouting when he is genuinely excited. No one else in the UK has mastered his style. Harry Carpenter and Reg Gutteridge, despite some flaws with the latter, are also greatly missed, especially when you listen to this current loutish, amateurish mob.

USA, Don Dunphy was the epitome of class, no raging ego, happy to hold back and let the action speak for itself. Howard Cossell, though its become fashionable to knock him since the Holmes/Berger book, had presence and style and really did make events sound big. I love his commentary.

The current HBO lot are just intolerable noise. Jim Lampley has to be the worst ever. A man totally in love with himself and incapable of saying one word when 20 will do. The American Alan Partridge. His anecdotes can last an entire round. Ruining HBO fights for 20+ years now.

I don't believe anyone makes better, more relevant technical observations than Teddy Atlas. I'd have Teddy and Tessitore commentating for every fight.

Bunce as presenter, with Watt, Piper and David Haye as the panel.

Adam Smith? Ian McNeily? Glenn McCrory? Steve Bunce? I seriosuly cant think of many worse, in my opinion.

Al Bernstien, Jim Watt (dull yes, but a lot better than most), Jim Rosenthal (very, very good when he used to commentate). Mike Tyson did some small stuff and was really, really good. Steve Holdsworth would be immense. Not sure how I would sit them as they are all opinionated but at least there would not be bias

If you want genuine intellectual opinion Bob Mee is your man, but genuine opinion is not popular amongst the paymasters. McGuigan is a different bloke if you meet him in person but he understands what side his bread is buttered on when broadcasting.
I remember the BBC used Claude Abrams when they started the Audley Harrison fluffing shows which was Bunce's worst example of selling out since he said Dominic Negus would have done Ali on the cobbles on one of those hardman shows.
Anyway back to the point, the BBC trawled out the usual suspects to say whether they felt Audrey would win a world title, everyone, roared on by Bunce, even inc Ant and Dec that Parcel Force would def be world champ. Abrams was the only one that said no and that the Euro belt was more realistic.
He wasn't used again!

Similar thing with Nigel Benn. He told it exactly how it was with Audley.

Not exactly Coco, that segment on "how far Audley would go" was for Audley's debut against that Yank. Abrams was used quite extensively by the BBC during that run (especially the late Sunday delayed stuff from the states).

His comment that Boxing was better when it was on ITV was probably more of the thing that cost him anymore work.

for some strange reason i've alway felt that enzo macc and steve holdsworth would be cracking but i know that a lot of people dont like holdsworth's style of commentry

Massive fan of all 3, aswell as Don Dunphry. Not sure why Adam Smith is getting so much praise. He is appalling with his growling....

Gutteridge was the best, followed by Cossell. Howard's commentary during Foreman-Lyle is legendary. Proper enthusiasm for the job!

Teddy Atlas definitely, if just for the section where he goes out to the car park to demonstrate key moves

The boxing panel on RTE have been outstanding during the Olympics - it was the same during the Beijing Games. Mick Dowling, Bernard Dunne and Michael Carruth have been so well informative and knowledgable, they have have came into the studio every session having done their homework - they have studied the opponents, tactics and spoke to the Irish coaches etc and passed on great analysis. Kenny Egan has came in for a couple of sessions and gave great insight too.

Aside from that Teddy Atlas is the boss.
