I thought we could perhaps employ a temporary ceasefire against Team GB and their evil, black hearted overlord Ron McIntosh and take a cheery trip down memory lane in honour of Boxing Monthly and Glyn Leach.

These are, in my humble opinion, some of the great boxing mag covers. I hope these images clear the Skotch induced fog from your mind and reveal some happy, possibly long forgotten boxing memories.

The general consensus in 96 was that Tyson was still a monster and the best in the world - despite what so many internet loons claim these days.

Nice one, those bring back some memories. MAB looks so young on that cover. One of the best covers was issue 1, with an iconic shot of Tyson

Knew you wouldn't miss the chance to proudly display a cover with Witherspoon on it. Oh, Overhand_right!

If I had my way, Tim Witherspoon would be on every cover and feature in every fight in every weight class.

I remember most of those covers, I dunno what that says about me!

My fave is the Toney Jones on yellow background which would look sweet framed, but honestly they are all classics.

I feel for you trying to make the current game attractive Glyn. How do you feel the current state of the sport compares to the 90s?

Who were the guaranteed sellers in the 90s? Although my selections don't reflect it, it felt like Naz or Tyson were on the cover every other month! They made for great covers as well though. Do you have a standout cover you are particularly proud of?

I remember most of those covers and agree I that the boxing scene at the moment must be a nightmare for those at BM and BN in trying to interest the floating fan into buying their publication.

First there was Golota and his low blows, the came cry-baby Mcall, now Tyson has savaged Holyfield and Akinwande has cuddled Lewis!

Great cover header that, worthy of a dramatic movie trailer voice over.

It really is like flogging a dead horse, telling people they should become interested in things that are barely of interest to real fight followers, of which there are too few for us to preach to the converted.

Very very uncomfortable era compared to the 90s LG. Yep, Naz, Tyson were the mainstays but then we had a host of other great fighters to call on as well, the likes of Lennox, Bowe, Holyfield, Benn, Jones etc. Today only Floyd sells. No exceptions, just Floyd - and he isn't uber popular TBH

Nobody has shown the first one, and the best one. We had Mullan and Abrams crying in the rain.

Seem to remember issue 4 had Hearns on it.

Sweet - never seen issue one. Still think the December 95 issue I posted is the best looking Tyson cover. Had my paws on the odd early issue, when it was still under Steve Holdsworth, and didn't like it. Bland and boring, lacking flavour. I think BM started to find its form in 92/93 under Glyn and from around 94 became the best boxing mag in the world for the rest of the 90s.

I do think Boxing Illustrated, under Bert Sugar, gave BM a run for its money with some seriously fun and entertaining writers and articles. Like a mini boxing bible, each issue.
