Anthony Joshua wins Olympic Gold. Lost the first 2 rounds, evened up the score in the last and won on countback.

Yup. I did not feel he did enough to win that. 3 pts down, sure he won the last but the Italian was landing too. Oh well, last match of the Olympics in London, with a Brit SHW in the final. Couldn't see that going any other way, to be truth. Not really impressed with Big Josh or any of the others.

Wouldn't of complained which way it went, he wasn't at his best but congratulations !

I was suprised when he won it on countback, I dunno how they work it out but given Camarelle won 2 out of the 3 rounds I thought it would have gone to him.

Brilliant reply in the 3rd by Joshua, the canny Italian thought he'd got in his head there, but he just went for it - like the man says: he's a horrible warrior

I didn't think he won that final, i think the Italian edged it. Joshua had three quarters of that last round, but lost the first two rounds. Good luck to the lad, but i'm not that impressed and i think the decision went to the wrong guy on this occasion.

Must admit I thought he lost it - was getting picked off a bit too easily for my liking. Happy for him as he comes across as a good guy but the standard of boxing is so poor compared to the lighter divisions.

Felt the Italian won it by 2 or 3 points personally. Joshua's second (and third) gifts of the competition.

The Italians have lodged an appeal

Fair enough, felt it could've gone either way.

I hate the appeal process. It muddies the waters and is basically an acknowledgement that not all your officials are competent

There is no way EVER that they will overturn that decision and yes, some of the officials have been incompetent.

yeah the italian won the first 2 rounds but its not scored by rounds. i thought the margin between them was a bit wide actually after the first two rounds! joshua did alot better in the third, but honestly thought the italian had nicked it by maybe a point! the amateur scoring system is just awful though!
joshua seems to be getting a bit of stick for his fights being close and not dominant in this competition but for someone thats only been boxing for 3 and a half years to even be mixing in this level of competition isnt bad really! another two years staying amateur will do him the world of good, and hes young enough to stick around until Rio!

Panic over. The result stands. Those Italians ought to try losing with a bit of grace/class

No big argument on who got the verdict.
If you ignored the silly amateur system of scoring - it could have gone either way as far as I could see.
But .. How bad were they both .. Shocking how such a pair of limited guys reach the final.
Then that does kinda highlight the problem in the pro heavyweight division..
Anyways .. Only in amateur boxing do you win 2 of 3rnds ... And lose!
Joke of a sport really.

I thought it was quite a tight scrappy contest that could have gone either way really. I dont think there was any clear winner. Glad Joshua got the nod. Yes the scoring is questionable, but all the boxers are subject to the same incompetent officiating.
Joshua has a LOT to learn, and I'm unsure if its the right time for him to turn pro.

Part of my disdain is because of the fact that he is not really all that good, as witnessed by 2 fights (in my opinion) that he lost on route to Gold. He clearly is not as good as some, in an admittedly poor SWH division. Now he will be rushed in to the pro ranks, built up, padded record littered with KO's and wont have improved much at all. All about the £££'s these day and good luck to the lad but I will wait a bit longer before getting excited.

100% spot on. Dodgy decision and a plastic gold for an average boxer. Neither would hack it in the pro game.

Joshua shud never have even got to the final. The decision he was given in his first fight against savon was one of the worst decisions of the olympics. And for me he lost today by 2-3 pointd.

I just got back from the excel. Felt for Cammarelle there. At the end of the third the Italians were cheering : looked to me Camarelle done the business. In the last round everyone wad chanting " KNOCK-HIM-OUT! KNOCK-HIM-OUT!" They all knew Joshua had to be pretty behind. I won't lie I was cheering as loud as anyone when they gave Joshua the decision but seems like a bit of a hollow victory. For me the worst decision though was Agogo getting the nod over the Ukrainian.

Joshua seems to be a bit too stiff for my liking, he reminds me of a poor man's end of career Frank Bruno. I thought he looked a lot better in the worlds.
I definately think that Savon's nephew had more natural talent.
I thought Joshua scraped home against the Italian (who was just knackered at the end) but thought he definately lost to Savon - pretty clearly also.
