There were issues with tying up the deal for the fight to take place as planned on the Price v Harrison bill and Brian will still fight Sam Webb, probably in December.

I guess theres gonna be lots of changes now because Maloney hasn't got Sky. There will be a lot of twist & turns in British boxing because of TV deals and money or in this case lack of money.

The fight between Brian Rose and Sam Webb did not work out financially, I believe tickets was the main problem, because it went to purse bids, the fighters would be on a good purse, why a replacement was not brought in, don't know, plenty of good fighters are waiting in line, Webb could of fought the winner afterwards, the control of titles in this country is a joke, the aim is to hold on to a title as long as possible, without being truly tested.

I do agree with that Saf. The biggest joke at the moment is why Jamie Cox is allowed to hold on to the Com Wel. Belt for nearly a year because of injury knowing that he will not go to Ghana to fight Sai. All these things just holds up the division.

Did Maloney win purse bids?

I just read Rose said wanted a WBC rating. Harris last fought at 10.3 he has never fought at light mid and lost most of his last 7 fights. This fight is a waste of time. Boxing is getting very sad. I was getting dishearted with football last season but least they have to play each other this is becoming a joke!

Harris is a shell of a shell of a shot fighter.

That was when he fought Carlos Maussa - let alone 2007 when he fought Witter. Now he is completely pointless.

As far as I know allegedly do not pay for boxing shows over here, I don't know how it works with a bigger promoter like Maloney Promotions, maybe they pay for bigger shows. Hennessey only got a pound when he got
channel 5, so he used advertising to raise the money.

A light welter against a light middle, it won't mean much over here or in the states, what ranking will he get from fighting someone from a much lower weight division and Rose already has a world ranking with the WBC for winning the british title

He stunk the house out last time he fought here and hardly threw a punch until a clash of heads ended the fight against David Barnes.

It won't be a huge win, but it is still a decent name to have on his record. I don't see the problem with this fight.

You dont see the problem with this fight??? With 9 others fighters in the top ten. This is the reason why boxing is losing out to MMA. Rubbish fights.

Its not a title fight so Rose will come in at 11.3 and Harris 10.6 at the most and the point of this fight is?????

Exactly there is no point, but apart from big cards where there maybe a decent match up at the top of the bill where are the 50/50 matches.

Answer they arent!!

Rose has had three British title fights in the last 9 months. He will fight Webb in a few months.

Why can't he have a non-title fight in between defences?

The current system is bollox and needs to be changed.

Surely a promoter puts in a purse bid based on their due dilligence (i.e. they have looked at who the boxers are and what he could "sell" and what he would need to pay them both - he then bids accordingly).

For a promoter to turn around months later saying it "did not work out financially" is wrong - if they cannot sell the fight then don't bid. If a bid is made then it is up to the promoter to promotes the fight (it is in their job title !)

If the boxers want a high purse, or he thinks that he can only sell so many tickets then bid lower - how simple could it be ? it is supplier/demand economics at the most basic level.

Your right. The problem is that promoters don't have to pay a penalty if they don't for fill thier commitment, so they can put in a big bid just to stop other promoters getting the fight, this is bad for the boxers, trainers and managers, work put in for nothing. We had an eliminator for the English title against Jamie Ball, the winner to fight Erick Ochieng for the English title, our fighter had won the !st three rounds, then an accidental clash of heads caused a cut in the 4th round, which caused the fight to become a technical draw, the problem is that the BBB of C never called for the rematch or put it to purse bids again, since Ochieng has fought journeyman Alan Lowe for his title and now he is fighting another fighter, so the eliminator was for nothing.
