This decade was chock full of great fights and fighters, such as Leonard, Duran, Hagler, Hearns, Holmes, Spinks, Pryor, Arguello, Serrano, Sanchez, Pedroza, Gomez, Chandler, Pintor, etc.
So what decision marred this great decade the most?
I'll go with Gomez-Lockridge. One of the judges (Panama's Marcos Torres) had Gomez winning by four points; he only gave Lockridge 4 rounds!
How Gomez finished that fight is beyond me; he didn't even give a post-fight interview. How he got that decision is even more mind-boggling.

Very good nomination. I went with Lockridge v. Gomez because Lockridge had Gomez almost knocked out so many times. He really beat the tar out of him to the point where he caused throat damage. Doctors were urging Gomez to retire instead of defending against Alfredo Layne. Wilfredo didn't listen, and we all know what happened.

Leon Spinks/Jesse Burnett

Leonard vs Hearns II...What a travesty.

I had Eddie Davis beating Spinks by 2 pts. I also failed to see where MS was so dominant vs Qawi.

Definitely another poor decision, Conteh's hometown crowd hated it. Jesse was screwed several times and was possibly the most mismanaged fighter of the last 50 or so years.

That whitaker-ramirez fight probably takes the cake. I remember watchin Mr Snipes get the nod over Gerrie Coetzee and being astonished.

The snipes-coetzee fight was fought under the rounds system; so the knockowns didn't help Coatzee as much as they would have under the 10-point must. Haven't seen the fight since it happned, but it seemed that Coeztee did win more rounds if I recall correctly.

Looking at the fights mentioned so far, it's apparent we don't all always agree.

How about these:
Holmes-Carl Williams. Not only did Holmes get the decision, but won going away. Probably didn't win over 5 rounds.
Camacho-Mancini was a horrible fight, but at least Mancini was throwing punches and occasionally landing. Camacho didn't do anything. Yet Camacho wins easily.
If I remember the right fight (It was on ESPN), Iran Barkley got a decison over a tomato can and certainly should have got the loss. Think it was Juan Hernandez.

Camacho didn't win easily; it was an SD with close scores, right?

Gomez-Lockridge occurred the day before Holmes-Williams. NBC was even advertising Holmes-Williams during Gomez-Lockridge.

Worst decision of the 80's was Tyson leaving Cayton and Rooney, really effected his career in a bad way

Otherwise Hearns vs Leonard 2 was real bad

i thought Camacho just nicked it, though from memory i wouldn't quibble with anyone scoring the draw or a narrow win to Mancini. I thought Mancini just took a little too long to get going, and maybe Camacho picked up a couple of later rounds. i'd have to watch again but don't really want to, like you say, not the greatest fight.

You are right; the scoring was closer than I remembered. According to boxrec, it was a split decision and the two judges that scored it for Camacho had it 115-113. The judge that scored it for Mancini had it 116-112.
