Yeah, this is a poor match. As Larry Holmes once said when asked if he was interested in breaking Marciano's record: "I could go to England and break it in a week!" (Those words came back to haunt him of course).
In Oscar's case, he likes mainland Europe for a patsy-hunt.

Don't be a muppet. He's only fighting Sturm as a warm-up for Hopkins, christ, the guy's a natural light welter, and you think he should have his first ever fight against the best Middleweight since Marvin Hagler?

The fight also sets the scene for the showdown with Hopkins.

Some people never cease to amaze me. Next thing you know people will be saying he should face Vitali Klitchsko.

It doesn;t so much bother me that he's fighting Sturm as a warm-up for Hopkins - what bothers me is that a win over Sturm is obviously intended to provide the basis for a ridiculous 6-division-world-title claim for DLH, even if he later has second thoughts and weasels out of the Hopkins bout, or loses to Hopkins.

Don't really see how it sets the scene for anything - this guy doesn't even belong in the top ten and has never beaten a world class middle himself.
He's got about as much chance against Oscar as Yori Boy - just another 6 million dollar mismatch IMO.

Oscar has found just about the softest touch going. I would'nt even bother turning on the TV for this one.

Give me guys like Casamayor and Corrales anytime!

I think some people are forgetting that Felix Sturm was a top class amateur, formerly known as Adnan Catic, he won the European championships as a junior and three years later as a senior.
Regardless of what some are saying, this is the grounding of a good fighter. He's no pushover.

Anyone remember the cartoon Ulysses? that was one fucked up cartoon.

I thought it was really sad the way all his crew were frozen and he wasn't. He must have felt so left out.
Did he ever save his crew?
Does anyone apart from me even care?

I remember the little blue girls brother was unfrozen, 'cause he was an alien and they were passing by his home planet, or something like that...

It's currently being shown on the Fox Kids network, in the wee small hours. Not that I watch it or anything, I just stumbled upon it while channel hopping.Honest.

While we're on the subject, does anyone remember 'Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors'? I've asked all me mates, but no one seems to remember it.

I didn't know that Ulysses, but if he was so good why'd he change his name then?

Still, what's Oscar going to be for this fight, 10-1, 20-1 on?

Typical of the man, always goes for the least threatening title holder he can find when it comes to getting himself a title ( usualy the WBO )

Bredahl, Paez, an old Chavez or Whitaker ( both having looked vunerable in previous fights ) Castillejo...

He'll only take on Hop if he shows decline in his next fight I reckon. Any signs he's still a force and Oscar will take a rain check.

I like this match up, its merely a warm up for Hopkins and I would really like to see the first 4 title undisputed world champion. Its gives us the chance for history.

I think some of you are being a tad harsh on De La Hoya. The guy has moved up from Super-Featherweight for heavens sake!

Look at his credentials, he went straight for the WBC title at Junior-Middle and then went for Vargas and Mosely so I do not see any problem at all with allowing him a fight to acclimatise.

His first fight at Welterweight was against Pernell Whitaker!

I would have though looking at his record that De La Hoya above almost any other active boxer should be exempt from criticism on his choice of opponent, for a time anyway.

Nothing wrong with the match up. Felix is a decent fighter, doesn't have much of a bang but he can box smoothly and counters well.

Although I may be biased as I am going to Vegas for the fight...

Sadly, i remember this one. I was just hoping that somebody else would answer Kevo's question before i did, so i didn't appear totally sad.
The bad guys were called monster minds, and it was all about Jayce trying to find his dad (i don't know how this one ended either, so maybe someone could tell me).
There was a little Knight and a girl with a giant flying fish, what the hell was that about?

what about these two, probably the best two cartoons ever.

But remember that Pernell had looked an old man in his previous fight before Oscar, hitting the canvas twice.
Classic Del La Hoya tactics! Then, of course, Pernell got robbed by the judges.

Cities of gold was overrated IMO, all stlye but no substance.
We discussed Ulysses earlier in the thread, and i for one would be very grateful to know how it ended. It was a great cartoon.

I would be grateful if anyone could tell me if Jayce ever did find his dad.

Which one was Cities of Gold? Was it the one when they were in spaceships, and they always ran into these pirates that were always singing?

But the fight was held in the City of Gold when De La Hoya won the Ulysees title for the 21st time :)
