Does anyone know why this never happened?
I think Serrano would've won by decision.

Dunno,I was around then and I don't remember that fight ever proposed.If I remember right,The snakes prime was before Serranos prime. Seems kinda like Sammy came and went. Not too memorable title reign.

Escalera won his title v. Shibata in 75.
Serrano won it v. Villaflor in October of 76.
Arguello beat Escalera in January 78.
Serrano lost his title to Uehara in August of 80, regained it in April of 81, and finally lost it to Mayweather in January of 83.
So, he and Escalera were champions at the same time, Serrano reigned longer, and he made more defenses. In other words, he didn't just come and go.

That would've been such a dirty fight. But I think Escalera manages to out volume Serrano. Escalera threw from every angle and switched up his attacks. That would've threw Serrano off a bit and made him go into his defensive shell and not take too many counter punching chances. Escalera wasn't your simple plod ahead puncher. He had variety.

Im sure Serrano was a solid fighter,but at the time of his reign,he wasn't talked about in terms of any big fights that I recall. He had little exposure.

He was shown on the Benitez-Petronelli undercard and on ABC v. Valdez.

True... but Serrano was no Everett. He was a runner and a pussy-ass dirty counter puncher.

Serrano definitely had the style to give Escalera fits, and if El Salsero was having a bad day, outpoint him. But, when Escalera was on, I think Serrano caves in. I believe this because I hate Serrano.

Seriously though, if they fought five times, maybe Serrano takes 3-2.

Since Serrano's been coming up a lot lately, thought I'd bump this.

To me, Alfredo Escalera was the better fighter. He reminded me a lot like the great Aaron Pryor. Throwing punches in bunches and from different angles. He gave the great Alexis Arguello 2 big wars.
