Nathan Cleverly to defend his WBO light heavyweight title against Ukraininan Vyacheslav Uzelkov on Oct 27. Uzelkov is another Karpency clone, he struggled by the Algerian Belkacem to win the WBO Intecontinental bauble in July to earn this shot. Not a lot of recognisable names on his record, he was well beaten against Shumenov a few years back and lost to Gutknecht for the European title earlier this year on points.

Did the press conference/press release include the phrase "Never been stopped"?

A step up from Karpency, but a huge step down from who Clev should be fighting at this stage of his career.

This really is a repeat of Calzaghe's early WBO title-holding career (except Clev didn't actually have to beat anyone to win it, which makes it worse).

Maybe he should think about that.

I see Buncey buddy Lillis is trying to make a case for Uzelkov on twitter being "unlucky" to get the decision against Gutknecht but that's garbage, he lost the first 5 rounds by loading up and being outboxed, rallied in the middle rounds but lost the last 3 or 4 clearly. Nowhere remotely close to winning a decision.

I don't think any of us are surprised with this. Poor opponent but after the Karpency fight he needs to look impressive rather than coast through a 12 round spar like he did against the American nurse.

Well, there are people close to Froch on here. Has he been offered the Froch fight and what were the options and purse?

I believe it as much as I believe most of what comes out in Mr Warrens Sun column.

I thought he was getting Dennis Simic? Maybe he was considered too dangerous so they went for a bloke that lost to him instead.

As for Froch being offered a "massive" purse to fight Cleverley at 175, or "close" to gettting Hopkins, I have more belief in the existence of Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy and the Lock Ness Monster. Maybe Gomez can shed some light the "massive" offer.

I have asked mate, and also asked about Bellew supposedly turning it down. They are, quite rightly, considering whether to respond

The thing is Cleverly is also an average European who got handed the title and has continued to fight sub standard opposition. Warren is talking out of his hole about Froch and Hopkins there isn't a chance he'd put him against anybody of that calibre.

Froch been offered nothing, and will not afford them one inch of press out of his name either.

They claimed a similar thing when Joe was still fighting. That Froch turned it down.

Or better yet, why not wait just a few more years, then when Hopkins turns 49 3/4, they can make the fight that the whole of Wales has been crying out for, with the added drama of Bernard turning 50 during the fight.

It wouldn't suprise me if they actually did offer Froch the fight, but only after he'd already signed for the Mack fight (which they knew). Then they could say they'd offered him a "massive" purse, in the knowledge that he couldn't take the fight even if he wanted to.

I don't want to accuse anyone of anything.

It just seems a bit stupid to lie and say he offered them a fight, when he could just give them a crap offer instead.

I may be being a bit wet behind the ears here but surely the venue would have to have been booked a fair bit in advance ie before negotiations with an opponent took place. The venue booked wouldn't be suitable for the big purses that were supposedly offered to Hopkins and froch and bellew v clev 2 would sell a better sized venue. Smells a bit fishy to me
