Cleverly's opponent is in the top 10 with 3 out of 4 main gov bodies ! Can't see the problem !

The problem I have with this fight is that it's Clevs 4th defence of a title he was handed outside the ring and is once again against an opponent who has barely any world title challenging credentials. I realy want to like Clev - he was an interesting prospect and looked to be going places up until the Murat fight. But since becoming a World Champ, he has been matched so conservatively. Carl Froch is excused (by all except Horse it seems) for fighting a relative chump like Yusaf Mack, but that's because he has consistently proven willing to sacrifice his record, his titles and his body against the best possible opposition. Ricky Burns has easy fights on his World Title defence list (Nicky Cook) but he is given a pass because he won a title from a credible, high ranked opponent (Martinez), took on a dangerous contender (Katsidis) and is risking it all in a 50:50 toss up with Mitchell.

Uzelkov would be acceptable if he were at the bottom end of Clevs list of opposition, but he's not. You outlining that he is actually ranked by the four bodies only goes to highlight how weak a championship run it has been.

And enough with the excuses. All we're heard since winning a title is B-Hop, Froch, Shumenov, Cloud, but yet we end up with Karpency and Uzelkov. I find it hard to believe that everyone else is always at fault for the big fights not coming to fruition.

Hatton didn't have one of the so called big 4 titles. It was always seen as a second tier belt till he beat tszyu. They claim that clev is up with the very best of the division and that he's being ducked but hasn't fought a credible world ranked fighter and if anything is taking a step back with his level of opponent

Maybe my memory is fuzzy - But didn't hatton write in his book, that his promoter was throwing Khan parties for going pro with him, and he was widely regarded as going to lose to Tszyu and wasnt invited ?

I think the book was pulped after Ricky wrote a few things that werent actually true. I think FW must have had some faith in Rick to bring Tszyu over. He paid an awful lot of money to get the fight here.

No, he didnt. But the WBU has been banned in the UK hasnt it? Or isnt recognised. Whilst a "top 4" title even the dogs cat knows the wbc, wba and ibf are the top 3 with the WBO a country mile behind. I seems to recall hatton fighting michael stewart with shamba mitchell on the undercard mictchell was widely regarded as number 2 behind tszyu at the time, he won and frank and mitchell both imitated that fight would be next. Instead it was ray olivera. This has gone on in brit boxing for years. Warren is well known for building a fighter and getting right guys at right times. Whilst we want hopkins, warren doesnt want his boy "maccrinellied" and cleverly hasnt set world on fire lately.

Cleverly is franks business commodity, do you think he would beat hopkins?

But it doesn't mean people are going to sit back and say nothing when they are being conned. Cleverly is promoted as one of Britain's few world champions when in reality he is anything but. Yes, it's makes good business for FW, but that's because he's tricking people into believing they are watching a champion when in reality, it's questionable if they are even top 10
