Matthysse v. Juan Coggi.

Juan Coggi was briefly mentioned tonight on the Showtime telecast. He was Argentina's last jr. welter champ before Maidana came along.
Tough guy; went the distance 3 times with Randall (including a TD which Coggi won). He should've been stopped by Eder Gonzalez in one of the worst-refereed fights ever.
I think Matthysse would stop Coggi late, either like he did tonight v. Olusegun or on cuts. (Coggi cut easily.)

Maidana's lack of guile & technical deficiencies (awful footwork, slow hands, no defence) would mean that Coggi probably lit him up with jabs & southpaw crosses. Until MRM got close enough to club him a couple of times with that overhand right, & then Coggi's legs would do that cooked-spaghetti thing they were so used to doing.
I do wonder what would happen thereafter, though after Juan Martin clambered off the deck. He was one of those easy-to-hurt hard-to-finish dudes. I'm not sure if Maidana could've kept him there. Would be a great fight, though...

I had another thread about Coggi-Maidana. Coggi v. either of them would've been great.

Eder Gonzalez kept him there--except in the mind of the most incompetent referee I've ever seen, Isidro Rodriguez.

Hahaha!
Sorry guys! I have tattooed Argie Light-welter blindness, it's a well-known traumatic condition. If LMM had kept the rat's-tail, then I'd not have made the mistake.
In response to the thread: Gawd knows. I think LMM would bludgeon him at some point. I think that whilst JMC would hurt him with that left, LMM's got a better chin than Maidana & might walk through it. & then Coggi's fucked, basically... Wide points or horrible brutal late grinding down.

Horrible business.
That fight is something else. & there's at least three occasions (not counting the should've-been-KO) where anyone not blatantly on the take/sleeping with Coggi's mum would've stopped that fight. JMC got a right pasting.

The Showtime crew said before the rematch that Rodriguez had been banned for life, but I'm pretty sure he reffed again a few years later.

He got shut out, though. I'd pick Garcia over him.

i think garcia could beat him but i think it'd be a much more closely contested fight.
i think garcia (if he beats morales) may actually give matthysse a very tough time
Agree on all points; Olusegun might have gotten a round or two on some cards. I'm just heartless.:)
