He lost his confidence after his fight with Max Maxwell, where he was rocked a few times, never the same since, was not happy with his performance, talk is he has quit the sport and also that he is taking a break for a while, he was in a final eliminator for the british, but pulled out and then vanished, once he was touted as the next big star.

All a bit up in the air at the moment. Tom has an extremely good job and there is talk he doesn't need boxing. But I have not spoken to him for yonks (must txt him)

Either way, to say this is solely about Maxwell is ridiculous. The decision seemed more deep rooted than that

Thats what came out of his camp mate, if you know different, enlighten us then, a lot of boxers have jobs, if he has a good one, then he is better off then many boxers who don't, thats not much of an excuse, he has not fought since Max Maxwell and there was a lot people calling robbery after Maxwell had been stopped prematurally, I know they wanted the rematch, but Doran was not in a frame of mind for that and he was upset with his performance, maybe you should have texed him earlier, then you would know for sure.

There was talk he had personal problems...I know what they are but I'm not here to talk about them. They weren't related to Maxwell, people need to stop adding two and two together and making five. And before you think I'm some Doran apologist, it was me who stated that there should be a rematch. The camp disagreed, and always though Max was gone.

To be fair to the PR hes a local lad who does writing from that area and he really got stuck into the decision and said it was out of order and called for a rematch when it would have been easy for him to just agree with the local lads whod hed been writing about .
Dunno if it was max that ruined his confidence but i think the lack of boxing since ,the outright refusal and the multiple pullouts vs Jez wilson who hada savage war with Max show that Tom wasnt the same after that fight.

Cheers Jon...Max was a class act during that whole period. The interview I did with him regarding Foster was brilliant, no ill will at all. There were just too many questions that remained unanswered...we had the start of a great fight there.

Well you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out you are taking the piss. All I can say is he is unbeaten mate, and still had Hatton backing when he took his sabattical. And he acts in a classy manner.

But yes, would be great if all boxers had something to fall back on. Either qualifications, or an organisation to help them in that transitional period between boxing and joining the real world
