Word on the grapevine is that David Haye was knocked out in Sparring by Alex Gurov.

I heard Danny Williams did it as well, although supposedly David put Williams over too as well as Greenberg.

Just rumours...you can never rely on them, but his chin does seem suspect.

I mean, future Cruiser/heavy stars do not get knocked out by Jim Twite or almost knocked out by a Light Heavy weight journeyman.

I hope David does really well, he would be great for British boxing....

Him and Enzo Macarinelli is surely the most exciting British fight out there. It should be made before either gets himself sparked. It won't due to promotional ties of course.

Is Gurov a hard hitter? All i know about him is that he lost to Jean Marc Mormeck on the Jones Jnr-Ruiz undercard. Haye's punch resistance is getting more questionable by every rumour we hear

I'm not sure that the Gurov sparring session actually happened. David was supposed to spar with him, but for some reason Gurov couldn't make it. That was about 6 weeks ago, maybe they have sparred since.

I'm sure I've read somewhere recently that David Haye has only been floored once in sparring (Twite?) and this was by his own admission due to being too cocky.

No but hopefully it will teach him to get his hands up in the proper fights if it is true.

I'm surprised people STILL go on about Haye having a supposidly weak chin.

He gets knocked down (admittedly heavily), by a hard shot to the temple, and despite coming back to wint he fight by KO,a nd subsequently winning his next fight with a first round KO, Haye is some kind of "pansy".

I still say Haye goes right to the very top in his career.

Ali got knocked down heavily by Henry Cooper. I take it Ali also had a weak chin then?

Yes yes...its a bit of a daft comparison, but the point is true non the less. Getting knocked down doesn't mean you are "chinny"

There's rumours flying around that David Haye might sometime this year. But that's just a rumour.

this chin problem isn't a new thing is it he was sparked quite publicly in the amateurs on a few occassions, i seem to remember once in a us/uk match.

Twite KO'ed him in the ABAs. He was also stopped by a Cuban in the final of the World Championships I think, but he was on his feet and it was apparently more exhaustion than anything else.
Those are the only two incidents I'm aware of regarding Haye.

Im a big fan of mr Haye, but while he looks awesome offensively he has a bad habit of dropping his left, if you leave lead hand that low you are leaving yourself open to getting ko'd at the end of the day if someone catches you right and hard enough it doesnt matter how good your chin is, you will go down.
So whether he is chinny or not we dont know as yet but think we would all agree he must get his hands up and work harder on his defence
But good luck to him he is a rising (and entertaining) star!

those rumours are incorrect.... sparring took place at the peacock gym.
they went toe to toe and it was a bit of a war...
it looked like one of them could hit the deck but neither did...

Yeah me to for sure but when is he fighting next. He could have arraged a fight on the Harrison Hersisia undercard easily and then we would have suddenly have a great undercard.

not sure he has beena bit quiet of late but was very active last year so dunno, didnt his last fight fall through? I coudl be getttng muddled here though it is Monday morn (just)

Even if Haye had got dropped by Gurov it would hardly be surprising, the Ukrainian is a serious puncher.

i dont have any info on Haye, i was only aware of the Gurov sparring incident because it was at the gym i go to!!

Like Kilburn has said Gurov is a serious puncher and probably top 5 in the world....

And the sparring was pretty even, both landing heavy blows.....

No it doesn't, but what happens when you get up is a pretty good indication of how well you hold a shot.
And Haye displayed the classic signs of not reacting to a punch very well ( from a smaller guy to boot ) when he got up: rubber legs.
(see Zab Judah for other similar dance moves).

I've got nothing against Haye and would love to see him go all the way, but it's a pretty safe bet he doesn't take a shot well I think.

You are correct. His fight against Lee Swaby fell through!

If you had been there at the same time KO would you have been allowed to watch the sparring or is it 'behind closed doors' for professionals?

Pecock gym is always open, never any closed sparring..

another thing if they were going at it and the sparring was pretty even, Haye must be doing very well to be holding his own then against more seasoned and experienced training partner...just an observation/assumption!

He got decked, hard by a Light Heavy. When he got up, he looked like bambi on ice. This suggests he is chinny.

The only way to prove he is not chinny is for him to get hit on the chin again and stay upright or show us he's able to avoid getting hit in the first place by either getting his left glove in the way or moving his head out of the way.

The 1st round KO in his next match did nothing to prove otherwise. All it proved is that he is a shit hot puncher, and i know of no-one who disputes that.

He's earned the chinny tag, now he has to un-earn it. It won't go away just becuase he blows a few opponents out.
