Well clearly every defeat and poor performance is due to people outside of his family who also are trying to make a name and career high earnings from his name. Therefore, the only sensible choice would be one of his cousins who have sparred a couple of times in their life and have always been right after each previous fight

Two things from me.

Firstly, I'm not sure Roach is always the trainer he's cracked up to be. Like any good coach he has had his notable successes and props to him for that, he seems to attract good names.

But secondly, I don't think that he is necessarily to blame for all of Khan's glaring deficiencies. Some of which he has had since turning pro and some of which I think he brings on himself and no trainer can fix for him inside the ring (i.e. his inability to box defensively and sensibly when hurt).

Manny Steward has a good track record helping guys fighting in a way to protect their chin .. I can think of two heavies he has handled that were kinda safety first guys ..

But tony, the patented Manny Steward jab-jab-cross-grab-hang on for dear life strategy (developed for Tommy Hearns as he slowed down & got more chinny, perfected for Lennox & taken to its zenith/nadir for Wladdy K) involves being able to hit so hard with the right hand that people are scared to time you & throw the left hook. You've got to be a savage enough one-shot hitter to keep blokes honest, or they'll just swarm all over you & fvck you up on the inside, where your only tactic is the ol' octopus-hold. It also helps if you're five or six inches taller than your opponents, with a massive reach.

Amir isn't a one-shot puncher, isn't tall enough & I think maybe also lacks the in-ring nous to pull it off, imo.

Khan has lost his last two fights.i don't think there is anyone who can teach him the defensive craft he lacks. Quality sparring which he gets is where you practice & learn I can't see him improving tbh

No trainer is perfect, but Mcgirt will command Khans respect, and it is near on garunteed Amir would have as much attention from him as he wanted.... something that isn't likely to happen with the very top trainers. Mcgirt has developed a bad reputation for losing big fights, though people tend to forget that he had the dog in his corner in damn near every single 1.

A friend of mine also mused over Adam Booth as a choice, and its certainly an interesting idea???

booth would certainly teach him to stay out of trouble wouldnt he? His fighters do steal fights well dont they? Haye vs Valuev, Groves vs Degale. In and out. Yeah good call.

I mooted Booth as a good option a while ago as he'd tick the boxes for his defensive and tactical approach to fights and also in that he'd be able to give Khan full attention as he only trains Haye who hardly ever fights and Groves.

Agreed! Hughes could be great for him, but not sure Khaan would listen to him as he's not pushy enough sometimes (Brian).

Can't see Booth being interested.

That little kid 'Saj' was slagging Booth on twitter and Booth quickly spotted and responded to it.

There may well be a mutually beneficial promotional angle between Haye and Khan hanging out, but from a training point of view I'd be massively surprised in Booth training Amir.
