Yes, but where were Murphy's fighter instincts! His chin was in the air, he was running into shots, jumping up from knockdowns, etc. He summed up all that was bad about the WBU.

I agree with Bennie's assessment of Murphy - lacked real power aswell which is worrying for Elcock.

Farnell faught well, and did nothing wrong - but Murphy can't fight and can't take a shot.

Complete mismatch - not that I am degrading the fight or the matchmaking - Murphy was an enigma and thus was the favourite - he's no longer an enigma.

And just think, Boxing Monthly had him rated one of the top 5 middleweights in the country!!

It sets a Farnell- Elcock rematch up nicely. After last night, I wouldn't read too much into that KO loss to Murphy, I reckon he just got caught cold by a decent punch, and Farnell knows all about that.

It also brings Lockett right in to the equation. Could be a bit of a round robin in the offing.
After watching last nights fight i'd say that Lockett can easily mix it with this company.

DAMN!! For a while before the fight i was tipping Farnell to win but on the prediction league i played safe and conformed with the majority for a Murphy points win I suspected at the time that his win over Elcock was a good punch and nothing more and it turned out to be that way, i have never been a Farnell fan but it comes to something when he is in the ring and the other guy is more limited Fair play to Arnie. SKY were getting hyped up about Murphy on the night he beat Elcock simpy to save face after they invested money and effort into Wayne in the first place and he got beat. I agree with Glyn Leach that Murphy should never have been in that fight anyway for a so called world title but that is beside the point, he was never a puncher as his record showed us and he proved it last night by failing to make a dent in Farnell. He caught Elcock with a good shot on the temple and that is that IMO but it doesn't bode well for Elcock's punch resitance does it?

Well done to Farnell. When he was being hyped as a Hatton-like prospect, undefeated future world class e.t.c we could see through it and I hoped for what Takaloo did to him.

However now he has settled into his place, which is a good domestic scrapper I like him for it and wish him the very best.

Yeah, never sure about Murphy, if the 1st round KO against Elcock flattered him, and it look like it had. All that fight proved was that he had a bit of power.

I want to see Farnell go back down to 154 and fight Takaloo, or stay at middle and face Lockett. Either way he will get knocked out! 8)

Farnell V Lockett could be a good fight, Farnell is a hearty brawler and i think if he gets in amongst Lockett and negates his punch power then it could get interesting. It is a perfect match to make though for both guys, Lockett is in danger of stagnating if he does not step up and have a good fight soon. If Farnell can inflict some facial damage he could rattle Lockett i mean Gary marks up pretty easily these days, Farnell does not have a very bad chin either so it could give us a good indication of whether Lockett's power has really travelled up to Middleweight.

I think Murphy was awfull, he is a goood boxer but when Farnell put him down and he was in trouble Murphy tried to TRADE with him how silly though i would put that down to inexperiance.
Well done Farnell though i still think he was the same boxer we have seen b4 nothing different.

For the first time in his career, he has done something to be really proud of. No matter what the skill level, it takes guts to come back, curb your natural instincts slighty and get the result.
His problem is.... how many fights before he gets put in with an opponent who will beat him? I say he has 1 soft fight, then gets Lockett or Elcock, so his time as as "champion" may be very limited indeed.

thought Farnell looked really up for it and totally wanted it more, Ive never understood the antogaonism towards farnell, other than he was being touted as world beater pre takaloo and got exposed for what he is an all action good domestic fighter, But certainly entertained against murphy at the wekend good luck to him.

I think that regardless of whether it is for a title or not Elcock should seek a rematch with Murphy to set the record straight, he would probably stop him i would guess. I doubt Murphy is even a big puncher i think he just caught Elcock with a great shot in a great place on the temple and the two combined caused the stoppage. Elcock-Murphy II should happen and Elcock can lay the ghost to rest.
