Olympic Champion Inks long-term Deal with Hennessy Sports.

James Degale MBE to headline event at Glow, Bluewater on October 13.



London (20th Sept) Mick Hennessy is delighted to announce that today the current European Super Middleweight Champion James Degale MBE has signed a long-term promotional contract with Hennessy Sports.

The 2008 Olympic Gold Medallist will make his Channel 5 debut at Glow, Bluewater on Saturday 13th October when he defends his European Super Middleweight title.

James Degale MBE said “I am over the moon with my new long-term promotional deal with Hennessy Sports. I can't wait to get back in the ring on October 13th and show the millions of viewers on Channel 5 what I’m all about.”

“The new beginning is a thrilling prospect, SO WATCH THIS SPACE!” added James.

Mick Hennessy said, “I’m very excited to have signed a brilliant young talent like James Degale.

“To travel to China to fight on away turf and be the only Brit to capture an Olympic gold medal in such difficult circumstances was an amazing feat.

“To already be European Champion after only 13 fights is also an amazing achievement, our goal is to nurture and enhance James extreme talent to the highest level and for him to become not only a genuine world champion but also a cross-over star worldwide.” Added Mick

James parents Diane and Leroy said, “ We are very proud of James who has stayed positive and committed in these difficult times. James has remained focused and dedicated during the lull in his career. The new contract with Hennessy Sports heralds a new beginning for him.

“We remain very optimistic that James will fulfill his dreams of becoming a WORLD CHAMPION! We are looking forward to the exciting and new chapter of his career with Hennessy Sports and Channel 5.”

James Degale MBE added, “Dear past thanks for the lessons, dear future I'm ready!”

Mick Hennessy has also announced today that Glow, the unique £60 million events and exhibition venue at Bluewater, Kent, will be host for the night of professional boxing on Saturday 13th October.

“I’m very excited to be bringing professional boxing to the Glow for the first time, it is a fantastic arena, perfect for sporting events like boxing.” Said Mick Hennessy

The high profile event will be broadcast live on Channel 5 in the UK, Wealth TV in the United States of America and around the globe.

The promoter added “The boxing fans who attend the show will not be disappointed, the evening will not only see the 2008 Olympic Gold Medallist James Degale MBE make his Channel 5 debut but they will see some of the world’s brightest young talent in action.

“Rising middleweight sensation, the Brighton based son of former world champion Chris Eubank, (Chris Eubank Jr) will be looking to continue his impressive unbeaten run as a professional and Kid Galahad, who I believe is the best Super Bantamweight in the country right now will be out to showcase his slick skills.”

“We will also see former British champion Lightening Lenny Daws challenge the number one Finnish fighter, Ville Piispanen for the vacant EU Light Welterweight title. This title fight has the recipe to be a real barnstormer and one certainly not to be missed.” added Mick.

There is also a great undercard on the night with Phill Fury, cousin of Tyson Fury and Guildford’s Eli Matthews who will be making his professional debut.

Wow. Big coup for Hennessy sports. He is definately a headline fighter having the European title. I'm looking forward to seeing him on Channel 5. If he can get active he is definately not that far from a World title fight.

Belting signing for Hennessey and I reckon he could be world champion by the end of next year. One thing that did catch my attention was Kid Galahad in an eight rounder hope thats not the case want to see him in with some decent opposition.

Please drop the MBE from his name, it's pathetic.

Eubank's practising his 'i don't like James Degale' expression on the picture with Haye on the other thread. As I don't subscribe tio Sky Sports, I am pleased with this announcement !

Like others, I didn't see this coming - I assumed that he would sign for Matchroom (like the others who have left FW !! ......).

DeGale obviously sees the value of being on terrestrial TV - regular televised bills alongside young Eubank and Tyson Fury will surely elevate his position.

As others have also said, I do hope that he re-evaluates his PR.

I have heard comments from people that know him or have met him and a lot say that he is a sound lad. I don't know who is advising him on this side of things, but I would like him to take a different approach.

Wasn't his a management contract with FW, rather than a promotional contract with FWP? Didn't the BBBC rule that he has to pay a management fee for fights up until the end of his contract in April 2013?

Who knows, but Degale never grew up surrounded by the gigantic ego, that is Chris Eubank.

That can make you extrovert or introvert. We shall see in due course.

Back to the signing, this a nice move by Mick Hennessy. I'm not sure Degale is the be-all and end-all myself, he's looked superb one minute and then very beatable the next.

I hope he improves now he seems happier with his new arrangement.

You can be paid well paid but if it takes a very long time to get it then it aint so good especially when the board rules say it should be paid within 7 days.
