Two jr. lightweights (yes, I know Valero moved up, but this match is at jr. lightweight) who died before they could ever maximize their potential. Valero won a belt, and Everett should've v. Escalera (a fighter far better than anyone Valero fought).
Valero hit harder; Everett was slicker.
Valero also didn't exactly beat great comp in his title defenses, though his DeMarco and Pitalua wins at lightweight were quality.
I think Valero would've KO'd him late.

Everett by wide decision after getting off the deck early.

I think Valero would score the KO while behind on points; great finisher he was when he got you down.

Never against this caliber of opponent.

True, but Everett never faced a puncher of Valero's caliber, either.

That's not as big a hurdle as a completely different class of fighter. The only solid fighters Valero faced went deep into their fights with him. He could definitely punch, but it's not like he was George Foreman.

Bingo, and even George had to actually hit his opponents to knock them out.

Everett by wide decision without hitting the deck.

x2

Escalera couldn't hit Everett either... except with his teeth.
