just wondering what you guys think. How good is burns? Or is mitchell not as good as i thought?
being from dagenham i always regarded mitchell as having the potential to be a world champ. But is he just not at that level? Or is burns that good that he can go on and unifi the division and become a great?
serious posters please. boxknob people not welcome please ignore this fool if he posts.

for mw personally i think Burns has greatly improved , i dodnt think much of him at first , think the Katsidis fight is what finally turned me into a fan , i have always thought the lack of power will be his downfall but he certainly didnt look like he lacked power tonight .

I thought Mitchell would win and going into the fourth round I still felt that he would eventually overpower Burns but how wrong I was.
A great victory for Ricky tonight and he has certainly gone up in my estimations. There's a lot to look forward to for Ricky Burns and make no mistake this was a great win for him tonight.
To answer the question, how good is he? Very good.

He's very good, I think, taking my 'It's only Ricky Burns' glasses off, he looked tremendously fast tonight, powerful at the weight and so very compact, got the basics mastered and just a very good all round boxer.
I think he's ready to take on other proper world champs now and see where he stands in the world rankings. Not saying he's better than the other world champs, but he's definitely in the top 5 at his weight which many have doubted in the past, including me. I think he is a proper world level fighter these days, even if I still think someone like Broner would have probably done him.

I wouldn't say Kev was a level below just burns landed big first and Kevin didn't really know how to deal with being hurt.even when katsidis buzzed him he stood & fought instead of grabbing and going for a walk to clear he's head. Little tricks can be the thing that make the differance

I really like Mitchell, but his ability to take a punch has to be questioned. Katsidis smoked him, he nearly went against Murray and then there's tonight. He was also down and hurt quite badly against Carl Johanneson.
There's also the fact that Mitchell is too small at Lightweight. I've said forever he'd be so much better suited to SFW.
Burns was class tonight though.

You're right, Mitchell has twice been KO'd and twice he has shown that as soon as you hurt him he just doesn't have a clue how to cope.
Burns though was a class above for me, way too big and strong tonight.

Maybe it's just me but...Mitchell looked tiny, if he's world class he'll have to prove it at 130 and not 135. Burns is very good, certainly in the top 3 or 4 at the weight.

I just think Mitchell got it wrong and got drawn in to a needless scrap. Ricky was that bit faster and had the reach, Mitchell didn't time his attacks well at all. We all expected the even opening round, but I don't think Mitchell thought Burns had any power, which made him stand in front of Burns.
I genuinely think Burns finished Nicky Cook with that body shot. Burns has been looking in amazing shape over the last few years.

i wouldn't say burns is a massive puncher he just lands very cleanly and often and that made the different's last nigh,t kevin will be back maybe a little trip to the wildcard would do him some good i think roach would bring out that little bit more in kevin ?

I personally couldn't understand how people thought that Kevin Mitchell had a chance in this fight. He seems like a great bloke and is a decent fighter but no way was he going to be able to handle Burns strength I always thought burns would win by stoppage to be fair I thought it'd take between 6-8 rounds so even better than I thought. For me Ricky burns is a strange case. He's a world champion and to be fair he doesn't really do anything amazingly he just does everything competently and for me is a prime example of getting in great shape and peak condition can get you where you want to be. He is a real role model and seems a great bloke took me a while to win me over but am.a big fan now.

How good is he? like the others say, very good. Martinez. I all honesty I thought he 'just' fought the right game plan + a little luck but then the way he dealt with Katsidis really opened my eyes. He then took the fight out of Moses who took his fot off the gas and out-traded Mitchell.
All the fundamentals nailed down + speed and fitness with a great engine. Seems like a hard working humble bloke to boot. I'll be supporting him all the way. Credit to Mitchell the first few rounds he fought well and gave Burns something to work out but his combination speed soon took over. He's put paid to those feather fist accusations in his last few.
