Wise decision in that if Carson Jones coming at him for 12 rounds gave him as much trouble as it did, then just think what Bradley would do with his combination of good pressure fighting and excellent headbutt

Blah blah bad prep blah blah

I don't know if it's wise, but it's pragmatic.

Can't really blame him, I suppose the conversation goes a bit like:

"Here, mate, you wanna fight the bloke who just controversially beat probably the second-best fighter in the world, for a few grand? Or fight a South American binman, get a guaranteed purse as #1 challenger, then fight someone far less tasty & sit on the belt whilst you wait for Ricky Hatton to comeback?"

It is the kind of boxing-pragmatic move that often comes back & bites people in the arse, though (what if Hatton collapses trying to get back to the weight? What if Bradley gets beaten by a journeyman? What if the South American binman turns out to be Carlos Monzon Mark II, for one night?).

Also: I'm sure it's just an unhappy accident of the way the promoters are intertwined with the IBF, but has anyone noticed that Kell appears to be going through Said Ouali's opponent list? Jones, Saldivia, & it's obvious the outcome he's going for is Bailey, another Ouali foe...

No surprise there in fairness, after the struggle he had with Jones (Bad prep or not) they'd be more likely to put him in with Bradley Walsh than Timothy.
So instead we get ANOTHER eliminator for a world title shot and they've plumped for another "Rugged Argentinian" ala the guy who fought Purdy on the Bellew bill who only ever leaves the country to get beaten.
I'd imagine Hearn would love to get Hattons name on Brooks record but If the fight ever comes off surely Hatton would only agree to it being on Sky if he can secure further dates for his team so the negotiations could be pretty sticky.

Wise decision or not?
In retrospect, a wise move indeed.

It's the smart move. To go straight in with Bradley after the Jones fight wouldn't be mental.

Why does Haton need a sky deal?

hatton is a pomoter without a channel. So he fights on another promotion in the UK or, more likely, they fight under GBP in Vegas and make twice the money.

Sums Tim Bradley up. Just beaten a guy whos top 3 P4P and decides to try for a guy who is as untested at that level as Brook.

I'm so uninterested in seeing Bradley's fights it's ridiculous.

Intransigent opinion: Brook nowhere near ready for a World title shot.

Smart move by Brook and Matchroom boxing's all about timing and Brook is not ready for Bradley although i don't think he is ready for Devon Alexander either

SKY promoter turns down big fight for one of their flagship stars against the man who apparently beat Pacquiao.

I'm not sure I follow. Is Brook ready or not now? Is SKY's decision to go with quality over quantity supposed to be about ditching the cotton wool and bringing us the big fights?

Brook would have to render Bradley unconscious to get the win over there. And Arum probably wanted a five-fight option on Brook in case he did win. Matchroom did the right thing, Brook will get a mandatory world title shot after his next fight and Matchroom will not have to put up with any baggage from Arum as a result.

Yeah Hearn got Barker the Martinez fight which seemed like throwing him to the sharks at the time and he got beat as everyone thought he would but he showed he was no push over and Barker has not fought since due to injuries. What if? Barker (hope it doesn't happen) never fought again then he would be happy he had the shot against the man on his record.
Like you say what if Brook gets get destroyed against a lesser opponent whilst learing his trade and never get to fight on that stage.
A bit of a balancing act but Brook isn't a novice and he's unlikely to get ruined by Bradley and may impress one or two across the pond in the process (the losing process)

I find it utterly pathetic that Brook and his team turned down this opportunity, this sort of bollocks gives the sport a black eye. They can chalk it up any way they want, but they obviously they did not fancy their chances much, otherwise they'd have taken it.

If they don't feel he's ready now he will never be ready!!

Winds me up how he was calling out khan yet he won't make the jump himself!
Great opportunity to gate crash world boxing.

Special K flakes out!

I know he didn't win but it sums it all up that despite having the win on paper he can't follow it up with a big fight.

Would you take the fight for not much money and if you win tied in options where your purse could be limited?

Tricky decision, and we really don't know enough of the details (options etc) to make a definite judgement.

Matchroom have made no secret of their long-term plan to have Kell become mandatory for the IBF, so they can have purse bids etc.

Personally, I'd like to have seen him give it a shot. Although if he did and lost, you'd get loads of people moaning that Hearn had "thrown him to the wolves" (see Martinez vs Barker).

Is that what the offer was?
I don't know the details. But when options are offered your not in control. Wins next fight then he mandatory for ibf where there is no options on you.
I wish promotors did not use options it probably stops lots of fights from happening.

Hearns is a gambling man.he don't waste time with fighters & when was the last fighter he nurtured??? I Remember him cocking it up for r.williams & Steve Roberts.

Or maybe after his major struggling in his last fight they feel he will get exposed & For kell to use dieting etc. as an excuse at this stage of his career is lame.

I think it is the right decision to turn it down. His next fight the eliminator is very winnable and if he wins. World title fight is not far away for Brook.
