Former victim Verno Phillips is rated no.7 in the world and continues to look in the form of his life after a superb one-round destruction of Julio Garcia on another cracking ESPN card.

Verno Phillips is ready for a world title shot, he's very well respected and would provide a Santos or a Travis Simms with great exposure that they need before that can really call out for unification fights. Phillips against either one of them two are solid 50:50 bouts thats are tough to call, he is ready now.

I think it was Boxing Monthly who labelled Phillips as shot following his loss to Jones, I can't believe he's only 34, he's feels like he's been around for ever.

I saw him on Sky against Bronko McKart a while back and he looked sharp, i cannot believe he stopped Julio Garica so easily, in fact i may have even picked Garcia to win on the prediction league

Garcia played right into the hands of Phillips. You just do not rush head-first towards a quality punch picker like that unless you want to get taken out quickly.

Where did you see the fight Kilburn? Was it on after Casamayor-Corrales? I have not seen the undercard matches yet.

Channel 5 "Fight Of The Week", Steve. I never miss them. I think it's repeated on wednesday so don't forget to tape it, there's some cracking fights on the undercard.

In 2 weeks time it's Courtney Burton v Julio Diaz, following that the unbeaten Oscar Diaz steps up against DeMarcus Corley.

And if anyone is interested - the week after Diaz v Corley it's unbeaten Dominican Jerson Ravelo vs David Lopez (the guy who just ended the career of Lonnie Bradley).

Diaz vs Corely, thats a good match up.

Just checked Boxrec is seemed that its not Corely vs Diaz as Oscar Diaz's next opponent is scheduled to be Ebo Elder, who himself isn't bad (beaten Clottey) but I don't think will test Diaz quite like Corely would have.

I watch ESPN fights on channel 5 when i am on nights usually, on the Olajide-Marks undercard there were some reasonable fights especially the first one with two guys who gave it there all, Willie Gibbs who won and his opponent Glenn Rayburn and Welterweight Steve Ham looked reasonable in his sixth round tko win as well. It will be a shame when ESPN stops showing Boxing due to budget cuts, it has produced a few good fighters for the bigger channels over the years.

yeah and the knock on impact is we wont have the c5 fights, which would be a shame I taped it last week and thoroughly enjoyed it. And the benitez Leonard classic after.
