Carl Froch is 2/5 to beat Charles Adamu on Friday. This is fill your boots stuff if you like a bet in my humble opinion. Barney aside, Adamu has beaten NOBODY of note. Froch meanwhile has looked the nuts so far as a pro. Don't like the way he leaves his hands so low at times but he was a standout amateur and is young enough to fight like that reflex wise at this stage of his career. Adamu not even that seasoned (a pro since 2001) and so in front of a packed I only see one winner. Can't see the price lasting either.

Understand the logic Bennie. We all know about Boothie and Robbo whereas some of these African cats can just turn it on. Won't forget the night that Malik Jabir just came out dancing and then began teeing off against Craig Docherty last year. I had done my stones on Hot Property and had also convinced a load of mates to get involved at 1/3. For 3 rounds the 'Bukom Snake' looked like Azumah Nelson before Docherty toughed it out and he wilted. Still CERTAIN about Frochy though. Fully prepareda and at home, take it to the bank.

True, but I think the only way to sting the bookies is to bet on the sure-fire favourites, and the odds are never great.
Incidentally, does anyone know how Adamu fared against Typsko (in terms of competitiveness)? I can't seem to find a report of the fight anywhere.

I see what you are saying Bennie. But buying money is a risky business, if you put £500 down you are only getting back £200 plus your stake, and Froch could get cut or caught with a stray one.

Re "buying money", have bet on a fair few sports over the years with varying degrees of success (this is a man who had a lumpy double on Australia beating the Lions and Bob Marley winnning star in their eyes in 2001... I kid you not). I will say though that boxing is by far and away the best sport for betting short odds favs and I will tell you why. If a tennis player, football/rugby team, horse/jockey loses, there is ALWAYS next week. Boxing is different in as much as your top performers only let it hang out a few times a year. If they are not fit or ready mentally they usually pull out.
Now the trick is not to bet ALL the short prices as either:
1 - betting firms rarely have a specialised 'expert' odds compiler and so get carried away by names and/or records
2 - As you say there is always the chance of a dirty right hook out of the blue upsetting the applecart.
By en large though, as long as you have a staking plan, you can make betting on boxing work.

Yes, indeed. The trick with betting is to pick and choose the sure-fire favourites. I know there was a huge amount of money bet on Ricky Hatton prior to the Ben Tackie fight, for example, when the odds on Hatton winning were initially poor and got poorer of course. But he never looked like losing for one second in the fight.
I've given up trying to outsmart the bookies.

You're not going to get much better for a favourite in what is pretty much a 2 horse race.

Froch has now gone 1/3 and we are more than 2 days before the fight. As my old grandad used to say "It's all about backing winners, not prices".

You know ...should that price contract further, one could lay off some of their stake on "Froch to win"...and back Adamu...at the longer odds...and thereby enter a WIN/WIN situation.

If Froch goes 1/5 or shorter I may well do this.

For those of you that don't know, there was a big cock up with the Lewis/Tyson odds for a couple hours in the early stage of the fight being made. Lewis was given the odds of 2/1 by some bookmakers for a few hours... while others made Tyson the 2/1 shot. They seemingly couldn't decide their minds.

So for those keen-eyed and wiley dudes out there...a huge profit was made...merely by backing both, with a saver on the 'draw' possibility....

I just opened an account with £100, then stuck it all on Froch at 2/5.
Like you say, for a two horse race it's not too bad. I'll be happy with £140 in a fight Froch should defintely win.

If he comes unstuck, well it's beans on toast for the rest of the month
