God I hope there is no truth in this.

Skelton more deserving than the guy who Price is fighting on Saturday.

I think Skelton is in enough form to warrant a shot at the British title.

That will be a good next defence for Price if he can beat Harrison.

Who else is there for Price to defend the British title against if he wants to win it outright?

Wouldn't be surprised if Fury fought Skelton next.

Skelton is currently on standby for Audley in case of unforeseen circumstances is he not?

Skelton has got decent power, is a former World title challenger losing to Ruslan Chagaev and is a former British, Commonwealth and European champion so he does have more creditability in this one so I would not mind seeing it.

Stu, mate, I was referring to the ultimate worth of the heavyweight division rather than your summation of Skelton's inherent worth as a challenger. I was being all rueful about the fact that if you beat Dallas & then some Czech dude, you get a British title shot.

The frustrating thing is, the paucity of British-level fights at heavyweight is more to do with promotional bollocks, holding out for a Klitschko 'til the end of the night & the proliferation of bullshit titles on offer than the quality of the fighters we've got in the division. We've got guys who could take part in a really interesting series of fights, different styles & physiques, & they're all desperate to keep the record shiny, & are too shit-scared to face any of the others in lower-level title fights just in case they're the one that is eliminated.

& with all the stupid money they can make avoiding each other, who can blame them etc etc? Unless Price/Fury lose against one of the retreads they keep busy with, & everyone'll go "Ah, what could've been!" & I'll laugh.

I don't see anything wrong with that fight. In fact, I named Skelton as a possible opponent for Price months ago when he first won the title. Price needs to be fighting more regularly, and fighting people that are going to turn up and give it a go.

Skelton isn't going to turn up and put a hurting on Price, but he'll turn up and give him a good few rounds. Price is being touted as being a future World Champion, but at 29 he's no youngster and has only had 13 fights. Watching him, he has power but is also very raw. He needs somebody who'll give him rounds and give him experience fast. If Price wins, and then fights Skelton in less than two months time, I'll be very happy.

Assuming he wins both fights, fights next year against the likes of Chisora and Kubrat Pulev would be good.

If he can get his outright Lonsdale belt as soon as possible then it's all good in my eyes. That is then ticked off and he can then look to the level above. He is coming up to his 4th year as a pro. Much lauded amateur standouts/Olympians should really be looking to be operating at the highest level 4 years in to their pro career. Pulev turned pro 6 months after Pricey!

Hopefully once he has the lonsdale in his possession long term, he can then look to make a significant step up early next year. Maybe try to get Ustinov/Dimitrenko in the ring?

Except, he had a license that didn't allow him to fight in Britain.

If he does come back, it'll be to fight nobodies in Germany, not anybody else.

I'm not being serious. If Price actually stepped even near a ring where Williams was, I'ld instantly call for his retirement (Price's)

It's not a great fight BUT considering it is 7 weeks after his Audley fight it's a little more acceptable. What is better, for him to have this fight and then fight 3 months later or to have over 4 months off after the Audley fight? People are always complaining on here about fighters 'keeping busy' but then moan when they do if the fight isn't a blockbuster.

If this also means he can win the Lonsdale outright then fair play to him. Then he can move on to Euro level. Within 2 years he can be at the top of the table, when the HW division will be wide open. He's only 29, a baby in that division.

I hate the thought of Price v Skelton. Skelton is nothing more than a semi recognisable name on an undercard of a show.
He's not the worst British heavyweight by a long way but after dispatching Harrison, I'm assuming, Price should look beyond Skelton IMO.
