I was reading an interesting article written by the respect Thomas Hauser on secondsout discussing a new rankings system. Basically the top 16 (or sweet sixteen) was drawn and journalists and writers had to rank the 16.

I was in absolute amazement when Hauser suggested that the sweet sixteen should have included Harrison instead of the likes of Holyfield! I mean, he's hasn't proven himself number #1 in London - top 16 in the world!

I brought this point up on another boxing forum, and there I good American posters supporting Hausser's stance. My uk rankings on the forum have recieved one or two debates - but the heavyweights have been a topic that most people seem to be in agreement, remember we are NOT talking about potential, we are talking about achievement.

Look were Harrison is ranked in the UK, you won't see Danny Williams or Michael Sprott near a top 30, and Matt Skelton would struggle to make top 100.

So what has Harrison done to achieve such appeal, I mean some of the poster suggested that Harrison should be considered above Mesi. I am no major Mesi fan, but I am aware he has beaten significantly better fighters than the ones Harrison seems to refuse to fight.

that is pushing it, but he is a fighter on the way up, the rest mentioned are fighters on the way down, thats the only reasoning I can think of, potential and he has plenty of that..

It's all about that gold medal and the "0" in the loss column.

Never mind the fact that Audley should have gone out of the Olympics to Lezin and he's fought nobody as a pro. Why let little things like that get in the way of a good hype job?

amazing how one incompetent referee can make Audley Harrison a millionaire.....
I was rooting for him at the time but the way his personality changed i start to wish that Lezin had knocked his ass out

Seriously though, arrogance and self-belief are close relatives, and although it can grate sometimes, Audley's self assurance is the quality that Danny Williams has always lacked, though talented, it's what has ultimately cost him his opportunity to shine on the world stage, that and weighing the same as a baby elephant on occasion.

He had just won the olympics and had the whole nations support while doing so, its gonna go to your head a little hence the stupid comment ill be world / broitish / euro (delete as applicable)champ in .......blah blah.

I dont find him that way now when he is interviewed, Actually quite like the bloke.
Tho I do have a good mate who went to school with him and he was a right f*cking menace apparently but hey he was a kid....know I have done some stupid things in my life and still do from time to time.!!!!

not yet no, no way.

I used to go out with a girl whose family is related to Audley's, and apparently he was a right little bastard when he was young, but then you are not going to find that many heavyweight champions who weren't bad boys when they were young.

As a side note, I used to know people who went to School with Linford Christie, and apparently he used to get his knob out in the school playground and then beat people up after showing them.

Guess his lunchbox was an issue even then....!
