Barrera v Morales 1. I was a volunteer on a medical trial and at that time only had a passing interest in boxing. This fella from leeds who was also on the trial mentioned to me it was on that night and it was well worth staying up for, tbh i'd never heard of either fighter. Anyway there was about 5 of us in the end waiting up til about half 3 all of us like nodding dogs just wanting to go to sleep, as soon as the fight started i felt like i'd had 10 grams of speed injected into my ballz! Best fight i've ever seen, been hooked ever since.

Bruno-Tyson 2. I was only a nipper but I remember staying up with my dad, grandad, uncle and cousins at my grandads house to watch it.

Stopped staying up for a while after that because I thought I was a jynx with the Brits losing!

Like a few others Bruno Tyson II in March 96. Im sure that was the first fight on Sky Box Office.

Michael Nunn v Marlon Starling, after i had begged and pleaded with my parents for months to get a sky dish installed! Eurosport was running superbouts at the time, advertising the series in the national press with a list of the classic fights to be broadcast, and i was desperate to see them. The first of the superbouts i caught was Matt Franklin v Marvin Johnson 2.
I remember watching Gabe Ruelas getting his arm twisted back sickeningly at the elbow by Matt Franklin on the undercard of Nunn v Starling, losing by tko when he could not continue due to the resulting injury. I have now learned that Riddick Bowe fought on this card, but i have no recollection of seeing him fight.

Edit - is there anyone here who remembers wether the Bowe fight was broadcast on sky?

Tyson v Spinks. Such an anti-climax

Bruno v Tyson 2. A local boozer were selling tickets to stay and watch it in the upstairs bar. They stopped serving ale at 11 though but did lay on fry ups and endless cups of coffee. Most slept through the undercard but I stayed strong and stayed awake for all of it.
By the time Bruno capitulated most people were tired and grumpy and went home in a mood.

Showing my age here but it was ALi v Foreman in 74.

Wilfredo Gomez on the undercard, Berbick upsetting Greg Page...Reg Gutteridge did the commentary - what a fantastic night that was - Holmes/Cooney was the biggest fight in years.

Duran/Leonard & Leonard/Hearns didn't even get shown live here I recall - shown 24 hours later on TV..

I think watching that was the most drunk I've been while watching a fight I was bothered about live, had been out before and I usually don't.

The first one I staid up for was listening to Lewis Hollyfield I on talk radio (before it became talk sport). The days before the internet were pretty grim.

Something special about staying up for a big fight. Can't beat it.

Great thread. I had a fairly separated relationship with my father but boxing united us. We watched Ali, we watched Hagler-Hearns, I spent time as a family with Herol Graham. I seem to recall crying when Ali broke his jaw (against Norton I think?). The first 'live' fight I recall watching was Steve Cruz vs Barry McGuigan was with my Dad. He made it seem like the end of the world when Barry lost, and as a 9 year-old it felt like the end of the world.

My old man used to watch all the big fights with me, except Buster Douglas vs Mike Tyson. It was the only fight he missed with me and I remember running upstairs now to tell him after he'd gone to bed calling it a mismatch.
