Ricky Hattin: hypocrite?

Ricky has been on twitter again this morning criticising Kell Brook's opponent last night and comparing him unfavourably to Sechenko.
Is this the same RHH who fought a series of stiffs in WBU 'title fights' in his mid 20s?
Is the Hitman hypocritical or simply deluded?

He is doing for a reason. Which could end up with him taking a beating.

I'm 100% sure that Kell isn't sat at home today thinking: 'I really wish that former linear light-welterweight world champion Ricky Hatton would stop mentioning my name alongside his. I'm working on a ranking here, I'm working on a ranking here."
I think everyone who uses this forum understands what he's doing. But I also think there's a big part of Ricky that actually believes the nonsense he spouts (eg, calling for a Mayweather rematch etc)

True - he is both hypocritical and deluded (although he is so deluded he doesn't see that he is also being hypocritical !).
It all started to go downhill for me when he started talking about himself in the third person.
Then he left his promoter, who to be fair promoted him perfectly.
Then he started to show his true colours by trying to save a few quid by sacking Billy Graham.
Then came the old "I am fighting for the pound for pound world title" rubbish.
Now, when he refers to his defeats to Pac and Mayweather you would think that they were close contentious decisions.

Surely Ricky wouldn't fancy fighting Kell though, VV? What's the point? He can fight someone more famous, probably old, etc. for more dough. Or Khan, obviously.

He's stepped in with Mayweather & Pacquiao in Vegas, so if he feels there is anything left in the tank he'd fight Kell Brook.
He'd be giving up everything though : reach, power, speed, youth - only thing he has is 'big occasion' experience and a massive vocal fan base.
Hatton was very good on swarming work rate, we'd have to see what nov 24th says first before we could make a case for a competitive fight though.

It depends on how he looks and feels in November. If he feels there is something missing, but still wins, then he might turn his attention to Khan and then Brook. Pack out the MEN, or a stadium, against two domestic names who, to be fair to both, wouldn't have been given much of a chance against the 2005 Hatton and have yet to prove that they deserve to be in with him. I'd like to see him fight Marquez in Vegas in May, but a W for Marquez over Manny will put him out of reach, in all likelihood, so it leaves Malignaggi then quick defences against Khan and Kell as decent 2013 options that will bring in good money. Then if he does well against a pair of U.K.-based Young Turks he may fancy giving it a bash against an up-and-coming U.S. name.
I'd like to see Hatton in with Marquez too, just to show how poor he is against top level boxers. I think Khan is better than almost all of Hattons wins and I am not a fan of Khan. Brook is having a career reminiscent of Hatton pre Tzyu and in that respect deserves a shot at Ricky as much as the man himself did against Tzyu. Hatton was good but remember the state of his face after Maussa and the trouble Lazcano put him in. I also had him losing to Luis Collazo.

Interestingly, Ricky was commenting on how Morales is now completely shot and a shadow of his former self.
My immediate temptation was to tweet back: 'sounds like a perfect opponent for you then!'
But I resisted.
I was and still am - to an extent - a 'Hatton fan' but agree with an earlier poster that the whole "Ricky Hatton is still an ordinary guy" schtick put me right off him.

Ricky Hatton is an all action fighter, he's never in a dull fight.
When you pay to see a Ricky Hatton fight you're guaranteed entertainment and that Ricky Hatton will give 100%.
Says...er...Ricky Hatton.
(probably...or something like that).
Yep, that 3rd person thing grated like f...lip!

I'm not saying this to start anything, it's just an observation after looking over this thread, and others, I've probably mentioned it before.
But man, you Brits are hard on your own. You have to be the most critical anyone is of fighters from their own country.
Not saying that as a good or bad thing, as I said, just an observation.

Know exactly what you are stating Bobby. Ricky is quite a difficult one to gauge, I think in terms of his fan base, respect by pundits and experts in the states etc he is possibly a tad overated by non Brits.
However, I do think by "keeping it real" us Brits will go the other way from him. I was a little gob smacked when I read a comment that Ricky should stay well clear of Kell brook, a fighter who has a clear advantage in every single facet of the game.
Lets see what Kel is like when he fights true fringe world class first of all, before declaring him more naturally gifted than Ricky ever was. As impressive as Kel was against Salivda, I remember when Ricky was 26 and making an ex world champion double over in agony, remember him completely dominating Ben Tackie.
Just because Ricky doesn't have the style for a long career and can eat a few punches, doesn't mean to say he wasn't exceptional at what he did and fantastically gifted fighter with world class movement, handspeed, footwork etc.
Done more than most British fighters have ever managed.

A lot of nonsensical views come from the tripe that the press churn out also...Such as Audley Harrison talking about redemption or Tyson Fury spouting off about plumbers...There's a big platform in terms of newspapers, magazines, facebook, twitter etc in which bullsh*t can make it into the public domain...& in return the British public are happy to give their honest view in return!

I get that, and I get the view, like Adam was saying that perhaps you guys are just more honest.
But this(Hatton) is a guy who is one of the best and most successful boxers to come out of Britain over the past couple of decades. It's not like the guy didn't fulfill his promise(Audley) or a guy who doesn't even have as much promise making it sound he has way much more(Fury).
I was never his biggest fan by any stretch, but he was the legit 140lb champion and, for what it's worth also had a belt at WW. He worked hard and provided his fans with big efforts, had some big success along the way and even when he failed, he tried his best.
I'm not talking about the coke and the booze, or getting out of shape in between fights or anything, I'm just talking about the guy in the ring. It just seems odd to me, like I'd expect people to be proud of him. And after all he's done, whatever happens is just gravy. That's what I'd expect anyway, but it's like with Brits he's held up to a higher standard now, than he ever was.

Lets not get too carried away with Ricky Hatton yet, has not fought for a long time and has abused his body, lets see how he gets on in his next fight first, before the big names are mentioned, Kell brook is too big, too young, too fast at present, lets see Hatton have a couple of good wins first, if he does not look good then, he should then retire.

For what it's worth I completely agree with you. I'm a massive fan of Ricky and in a selfish way I'm over the moon that he's coming back, always have been proud of Ricky and always will be!

He's clearly been a world class fighter in the past although for me not at the very elite level. I'm going to his comeback fight in November but I'd be surprised if he can get back to anything near his peak and would expect him to struggle with Senchenko, albeit probably pull out a win.
I'm not totally sold on his boy next door, man of the people image however. The adulation and fame has (perhaps inevitably) definitely changed his personality for the worse. His drinking and drug taking I don't have a massive issue with. Plenty of people are and have been seduced by that lifestyle. It's more the treatment of Billy Graham, delusions he has that he was on the same level as Mayweather and Pacquiao and these references in the third person that annoy me.

I can understand all that, the "I'm just a regular guy like you" thing, or the seeming
effort to portray himself that way always bugged me a bit, be it by him or other athletes.
But here again, I'm just going back to (many, I know you aren't a uniform group as Brits) being really hard on the guy, only speaking career wise. I don't know how you get to be the 140 champion of the world, beating Kostya Tszyu, without being "truly" elite.I know he was a step below Pac and Mayweather, but who isn't?
If I go on the Aussie board, it would be like seeing many of the people there slagging off Tszyu, I know that situation is a bit different, but still. Or it would be like many Americans on the board trying to discredit Andre Ward or Filippinos talking badly about Donaire, or Mexicans talking badly about JMM,etc...
I can't see that happening, or not a lot anyway. You guys seem to have a very high standard. The moment someone loses, or says or does something publicly, or doesn't face a HOF fighter in every title defence, or....well, retires, he's screwed. British fighters can't seem to win, ultimately, with the fans. You're damned one way or the other. I've noticed it in Football as well.
