Hope he not only takes the Simpson fight on December 1st (apparently he hasn't yet) but, if he does, he gets back into training 100%.

"Predictably, his manager Alex Morrison played down the outing, labelling it a 'blip' - a description which must make Harrison a walking ECG machine"
That made me spit out malt loaf. Sublime work I McN.

Spot on

polar opposites as professionals. Harrison seems destined for self destruction.

What is Harrison like on a personal level? He seems to me to be someone who has withdrawn from the world and has problems coping with life. Do I have that wrong though and he is simply unpleasant?

Top work Dondada.
Big-drinking Jason Booth goes to show that despite a terrible alcohol problem, you don't have to be a loathsome cretin, stumbling out of titty bars and in court/jail every other day.
Judge a man by his actions.

I've no idea. He may have personal demons to sort but that is none of my concern. I don't like him as a fighter. I don't like it when fighters get such an advantage from 24 hour weigh ins, I didn't like his gift draw against Polo and I don't like the fact he seems to be so highly thought of despite managing to avoid a shitload of quality featherweights in a very strong era. He got a title shot off the back of beating old men and lost to the first half decent old man he faced as champ. I found his whole reign uninspiring and seeing him smash little old Wayne McCullough around the ring for 12 rounds sickening - his career highlight
Sure, he also come across as a twat, but for me boxing aint rehab. I don't wish for him to succeed so that the general public get a rest from him being a c
unt. Especially if that's at the expense of a boxer like John Simpson.
He gets a lot of second chances does Harrison

Playing devils advocate. Almost every British “world title reign” in the naughties was fabricated, specifically ones that involved SN fighters on sky. Hatton had some memorable nights in the MEN fighting blown up lightweights, or men who were beaten before arriving. This culminated in his real world title shot against Tszyu before he slipped back into the comfort zone fighting the likes of Collazo (who had ever heard of him, really), Urango (anyone?) and Castillo who had seen more action than Katie prices dildo. Hatton ‘avoided’ a raft of sublime world class light welters during his reign. Mitchell, Judah, Cotto, Gatti, Harris, Witter etc.. Calzaghe was much the same until post Lacy with reasons such as his fear of flying for not travelling to fight Hopkins, jones jr etc…
On the weight gain issue, that’s not scot that’s the way world boxing works, and its been set out to protect fighters. Once day before weigh ins were agreed (to preserve a boxers health in the ring and reduce deaths) it opened up a world of dehydration and the allowances of sports science to manipulate how much weight a fighter can add in those crucial 24hrs. If scott can gain an advantage so be it. Same as Hatton, Margarito, Chavez Jnr plus a whole realm of other fighters do. I recall stories of Margarito entering the ring at 175 for one of his fights. So I ask, wheres the cut off point? And why should Harrison not exploit a world governing body ruling. He’s within the rules.
Poor “little old wayne mculloch” who took the fight, and the pay check. Whats scott supposed to do, refuse the fight, not hit wayne hard. Wayne was coming off the back of 3 decent enough wins and subsequently took larios the distance and gave him a little scare along the way before being beaten in the latter stages of the rematch. Does Hamed also get a slating for bashing up little wayne mculloch?
Boxing isnt rehab but Its an escape for a lot of people, something to focus the mind. The amount of good the sport does far outweighs the bad. Whilst im sure a lot of kids spend a year in the gym then commit violent crime using the skills they’ve honed, far more go into the gym, keep their head down and build a life for themselves around discipline, training and fitness.
Personally I used to enjoy nights at the braehead in the early 00’s. flower of Scotland then Harrisons bullyish marauding style. Chacon through to Estrada was a good ride. If the fire is still burning, Harrison against the winner of Murray Rees would be a fine ending to what was, for me, and entertaining, albeit short, era of Scottish boxing.
That’s just me being an argumentative pudendum during 10mins of my lunch hour though.
Where does everyone have Harrison in their Scottish all time p4p rankings? I seem to recall him being pretty high around the 2002 / 2003 era.

Hatton beat Tszyu for his title. He never claimed to be the champ whilst WBU holder. Collazo was a welterweight were Hatton stepped out of his comfort zone, Urango was a heavy handed guy who was fortunately or not still a champion and Hatton was trying to unify. Castillo fame was as high as it could be following the Corrales fights and he had clearly outgrown the lightweight division. Sure he wasn't what he was but I see nothing wrong with that matchup. He then went up against the two best fighters in the world.
Enough has been said about Calzaghe's reign but the fact that he won his title against Eubank (albeit with weightmaking problems) and finish it with fights against Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins excuses most of this.

Just because it's legal doesn't mean I have to like it. A fighters weight should be monitored after the weigh in and they should be limited into how much weight they can put on (although I never felt Hatton pilled lots of weight on in those 24 hours although will concede I could be wrong).
For me Harrison's strength advantage gained from this was his major asset. Everything else about him as a fighter is thoroughly average.

3 decent enough wins? Enough for a title shot? The Hamed fight was 5 years before and the Larios fight was at a weight below.
It's Harrison's signature win and it involves him knocking an overmatched, undersized opponent around the ring for 12 rounds. Sure it isn't Scott's fault that they kept sending him out for round after round (hello Cheryl) but it doesn't erase the bad taste it left in my mouth.

Whilst this is true it clearly isn't helping Harrison who has brought far, far more negative headlines for boxing than positive ones and this time you couldn't even blame the press.

.
Just to say this summary of Hatton's career is clearly a bit inaccurate. I'm sure Judah and Cotto were are at 147 post Tszyu, Gatti was never on the radar at that time, neither were Witter or Gatti 'sublime, world class' fighters. Urango has held belts recently and Collazo was a welter. I think its difficult to fault Hatton's post-Tszyu career too much.

Cotto was still at 140 but was killing himself to get down and their team said they were heading up, when the Hatton feelers were being put out. He then went up and destroyed Quintana, the unbeaten southpaw danger man and people got wary of fighting him at that time.
Judah was already at 147 and unifying the belts, albeit in average company like Spinks etc. But when Baldimor took the WBC belt off Judah, everyone scrambled to 147 for a slice of him. Floyd took a Sharma Mitchell 147 bout, did Judah and then got stuck into Baldomir.
Only Hatton vs Tszyu and Floyd vs Gatti were made during the 140 glory days - mainly on account of the Showtime / HBO politics. It was that which stopped Tszyu vs Mayweather.

Wales ,,, That was a very well thought out answer and also correct , Harrison on the boxing side has only done what others all do , regards softer fights , weigh in ect ect .
But thats Harrison the profesional boxer .
Now Harrison the person thats another story , the guy is a first class twat , he's nothing but a drunken bully and for me i can't wait to see the day he
1 --- gets locked up for a long time and see if that cures him .
2--- he drinks himself into being such a blabbering mess, that the next person he picks on , has the advantage and kicks the shit out of him .
The guy is a total tosspot who has and keeps getting away with murder and all the bleeding hearts say its not his fault , because he's a boxer , would most feel the same if he was just some unknown chav from up the road , would they balls , but because he's a well known boxer its not his fault .
Fackit , a drunken bullying thug, is always going to be a drunken bullying thug.
He's had enough chances next time he messes up give him 10 years , the pubs in scotland will be safer with one more thug out of the way

Like i say, i was more playing devils advocat and insighting a discussion than anything. The high profile cocaine tooting of hatton and calzaghe dont rate too highly, how about hamed and khan with their driving exploits, hopkins mugging old ladies, james toney and his gun tooting gangsters or roberto durans complete disrespect for everyone and everything. Or iron mike the rapist. Boxing is full of "clourful characters", sometimes the sport and personal life need to be sperated, or some consistency is required.
