On route to a London Press Conference to the biggest fight of his young career, 24 year old Dillian Whyte received a phone call from UK Anti Doping. The news that traces of a banned substance officially named methylhexaneamine (DMAA) was found in recent samples shocked the Brixton Heavyweight prospect and his team.

Following a number of telephone conversations with a UKAD official, British Boxing Board Of Control & promoter Frank Maloney a decision not to appear at the press conference for the English Heavyweight Title against John Mcdermott was made.

All fingers point to a pre-work out drink named JACK3D which Whyte used in the lead up to his last bout unaware that the product had been banned from stores in the UK only weeks before.

Dillian Whyte and his team will be fully co-orperating with UKAD & The British Boxing Board Of Control in the coming weeks, a disheartened Whyte said “I have nothing to hide its a genuine mistake and I urge all boxers to double check all ingredients in all pre-workout drinks they take, I would hate to see another boxer make the same mistake I have.”

MHA is not a steroid and is often referred to by other names on supplement containers: 1,3-dimethylamylamine; dimethylamylamine; dimethylpentylamine; DMAA: forthan; forthane; floradrene; geranamine; and geranium oil, Graham Arthur, director of Legal at UK anti-doping was recently quoted “Methylhexaneamine (DMAA) is a banned substance ‘in-competition’ that frequently appears in over the counter and internet bought products but not clearly on the label.”

Joe Long, manager of Whyte said “This is a sickening setback for Dillian and a big lesson to be learnt, we will be meeting with UKAD later this week and hope to come to a conclusion ASAP”

Who banned it from stores?

The only way to stay clean is not to take any supplements at all its not rocket science anybody taking supplements of any description always runs the risk of finding out at a later date that the supplement contained a banned substance it might have been taken in innocence but i am afraid that is no excuse but having said that if he has taken a banned substance albeit inadvertently it is still no excuse and he must face the consequences whatever they may be Its a minefield and everybody knows the risks involved ( or should do) He has only himself to blame IMO

Theres a database for these products, the only honest thing to do is keep checking it, make sure you keep updated on what is and isnt banned, and if you take something that gets banned the next week, put your own hand up to it.

When they ban something, do they issue a warning saying they are considering a ban - i.e that if you have taken it, you then have a grace period in which you are not expected to take any more, and allows time for the substance to leave your body before the ban?

Well I knew jack3d was banned and I have a limited knowledge of supplements.

Jack3d was only banned in UK in approx September but has been relaunched as Jack3d micro and this is not banned.

When they get banned do all fitness shops, stores that sell supplements get updates notifying it's banned and what isn't? If it was banned today how all distributors know? Check the website? just interested.

Just been looking on the uk anti doping site http://www.ukad.org.uk/anti-doping-rule ... iolations/ and it seems that Ryan Barrett was banned for 15 months in April when the very same stimulant was detected in a sample.

Tony Dodson same thing 5 months ban and Enzo Macrinelli 6 months.

No excuse for this one, as a professional sportsman taking supplements it's his responsibility to keep himself updated with what is legal or not, there's enough resources out there for him to check. Ignorance is not an alibi.

If he has tested positive he should be banned full stop ignorance is no defence whatsoever

There has never been anyone testing positive on CNP products. British Racing use them and they are super strict.
