I have been using this forum since 2002 and became a member in 2003. Before that I was a member at Boxingtalk and prior to that Boxing.com (don't know what happened to that!)

I check this site pretty much every day, even when on holiday etc.

However for some reason the forum doesn't seem as vibrant as years gone by and I wonder if Twitter has some part to play in that? A lot of news breaks on Twitter, boxers and promoters are interacting with fans instantly. From my experience there's a new age of boxing fan, who probably don't even know who about boxers from the early 2000's let alone the 70's etc.

What do people think? Will boxing forums be a thing of the past when all the dinosaurs are extinct? I for one much prefer this forum than twitter.

I think there's a lot to what you say.

There's a lot more interaction/turnover on twitter but, IMO, much of it is shite. I mean, OK, the same could be applied to a lot of forums (not here, I'd say) but this place gives opportunity for more extended discussion and response.

I've never had anything to do with twitter or Facebook or any of that guff and never will do.

I've never been on Twitter and I even recently deleted my facebook profile. It's quite liberating actually although the amount of time I spend on this forum, I'm probably just substituting one social network with another!

Twitter's good for interacting directly with boxers, people in boxing, journalists etc. Some fighters reply, some don't. Some just endlessly retweet people telling them they're the 2nd coming of Chuck Norris, some just tweet what's on their mind.

Forums give us a chance to debate & express our fully thought-out, objective and considered opinions, backed up by evidence and facts....sometimes.

I think they do different jobs, and can live side-by-side in perfect harmony. Just like we all do.

I think it's more of a symptom of a general malaise in boxing as a whole. Boxing has managed to become even more marginalised and has managed to fornicate of it's own hardcore fans with the lack of big names willing to fight each other.

Well, technically I temporarily deleted it as to permanently delete it you have to fill in a form explaining why you want to remove yourself and I couldn't be bothered doing that. To temporarily delete is very straightforward. Can't remember off the top of my head how I did it but it took about a minute. Just googled it.

Twitter serves its purpose as a venue for giggling pillocks, inane gossips, celebrity ego massagers/arse lickers (and the recipients thereof), and marketeers. As such it is actually working like a reverse shit filter for forums and, in time, the twerps and dummies who post nought but smileys and lolz will all be gone and those few who actually wish to discuss things in some depth will remain. Quality over quanity.

I hope you are right! In my mind there are 3 types of boxing fans;

1. Casual, mainly into football and will watch big fights and recite whatever preview they have read in the sun or watch on sky sports news. No real knowledge of any boxers and likely to say I like that Floyd Merriweather.

2. Younger fans or new to the sport fans, getting all info off facebook or twitter and very slap dash with it. Likely to buy tickets to fights of magnitude but wouldn't look up every boxers record on here.

3. The forum geeks (we are geeks to some extent) who know what brand of gloves Emmanual Augustus wore in his 7th Pro fight and generally care more deeply about the peripheral aspects of the sport other than a fight in itself.

Twitter is fantastic.

Where else can you get articles and statements from people in the sport you love, sandwiched between pornstars flashing the gash?

Im also a fan of twitter, its as good as the people you follow.
If you choose to follow the daft celebrity circuit then it just becomes a page full of nonsense but if you follow people related to your interests then you basically get a live news bulletin.

As the other post said aswell, you also get a good swatch at the gash.
Search Chelsea Ferguson, shes worth a peek. Some pair of tits. haha

Dan Rafael is good to follow (Not because he has a good pair of tits) as he gives live updates of a lot of fights we wouldnt see here. Joe Gallagher posts a lot of good links aswell as do many more.

Its good for round by rounds if away from a TV.

Whilst wise cracks and funny pictures is cool - I'm starting to wonder if there is actually decent content out there - and actually there is.

It's good to go freestyling on the web, rather than log into the usual site like facebook or twitter.

I concur. I've also noticed that the forum is getting slow of late. You've hit the nail on the head. Maybe it'll be a thing of the past.

I'm not on Twitter and something that really gets on my tits is tweets by people that can't spell popping up on Ringside, like I would rather read their opinion than listen to mcGuigan, McCracken, Froch etc.

To be fair to Johnny I loved the way he said Joe Gallagher trained all his fighters the same, I thought Gallagher was going to explode
