I suspect regional titlists (no matter which division) were using it to get out of their Oz division mandatory defence.Beltane wrote:Rule 73(b) seems quite harsh and what is the logic behind it this devaluation?
Both rules are bent on "watering" down of the Australian title leaving it now the equivalent of a "Claytons" title!
should geale be oz middlewight champ?Brute wrote:Should a national title be "kept circulating" or should it belong to the best fighter at that weight in the country?
Jimmy Carruthers, Lionel Rose and Johnny Famechon were Australian and World Champions at the same time. Should the Australian title be held by a lesser light?adamheight wrote:should geale be oz middlewight champ?Brute wrote:Should a national title be "kept circulating" or should it belong to the best fighter at that weight in the country?
ideally no. but its the same all over the world. when fighters exceed past a certain level their aspirations of being a domestic champion are surpassed. its time to move over and let the younger guys coming up get chances. a lot of the top flight australian boxers dont even want to be in domestic rankings.Brute wrote:Jimmy Carruthers, Lionel Rose and Johnny Famechon were Australian and World Champions at the same time. I agree with you Brute. In my opinion the best in the country should be Aussie champ.Brute wrote:Jimmy Carruthers, Lionel Rose and Johnny Famechon were Australian and World Champions at the same time. Bang on mate, but we're both over 60 so we can't be right.patron wrote:i,m from the old school. the best fighter in the country should hold the aussie title, they can still hold the other world and regional? titles, if a kid is good enough he should have no problem putting his titles up against a fighter who has reached the 2nd rung from the top, but we all know it is all about money these days,Brute put it right, but those days are gone. don,t tell me Williams v Mason were the top contenders for the Australasian Welter Title, we have a Regional titleholder up here who will not fight an aussie as he has had no luck with them, so don,t tell me the good fighters hold the regional titles, thank god we still have prelim boys striving to get to the top{Aussie}its all about money and those little people running the game, all the best,
