Theophane from world title to multiple journeymen fights

If Ashley Theophane is a world class boxer then why was his comeback fight against a journey man and his next fight will be against another journey man with more losses on his record than wins? were was this title fight and were is the fight on a floyd bill? if he is so loved in the states why isn't he in the mix with fighters who have a better record than his most recent opponents? All I hear is how great he is,dont tell me show me and all I read is quotes that he copies and pastes like their his own.

I find him a very confusing fighter. There are touches of class that hint at his potential, yet the almost complete absence of any trace of hunger or ambition when he fights makes him look very ordinary.

The title is a bit misleading. The writing was on the wall with the Murphy fight. It should never have been stopped when it was.

I posted this in Feb while being told how good he was. Some people just believed the hype. Again, I'm not knocking Ashley, he's done great for a guy who finished his Am career without a win in two years. Just all the world talk that becomes tiresome. It must have got to me because while searching I found quite a few posts from me on the subject
I'm not knocking Ashley’s achievements, hats off to him he’s improved immeasurably from the early days, but people were getting carried away. People saw a few wins in the states and bought into it, it was never as simple as that.
As I said before on here:
Ashley mentioned in numerous publications after his Jan 2007 fight with Alan Bosworth that he'd been frozen out of a title shot and that he didn't care about the Lonsdale belt, he was going straight for the world title. What actually happened was that it was an eliminator (not a final eliminator) and when the final eliminator was ordered, it was against a tougher opponent (think it might have been Matthew Hatton). Eames was desperate for Ash to step up, said he was trying to get him to step up for ages.
Then Ashley does superbly to win the title off Daws some years later, straight after the fight he insisted he's giving it up, won't defend it because he's off to chase the world title. Then Cook comes in as an opponent and the defence is on.
Theophane has mixed in fringe world class, but facts are what you make of them.
Chop Chop was a good away win for Ashley, but you could present it that it was Corley's 5th loss on the trot. He's actually racked up 14 losses since (but including) the Witter fight, which should indicate whether or not he's the same man he was.
Against Garcia, did very well in a loss that was a good learning fight for Garcia.
Against Rodriguez he was lucky but did prove solid. Rodriguez has now won 2 of his last 7, again an indication.
Yep, Lenny was the favourite and I thought he'd edge it, but Daws looked flat. Best result of Ashley's career for me.
Cook, still had a dig but no where near his prime. He pushed Ash closer than he should have been able to though.
Murphy, too light and late notice as a replacement but clearly showed Ashleys limitations.
And as for the hard journey state side. Ash went over once or twice, met Salita in one of the gyms, the well funded Salita then paid Ashleys expenses for most of the trips that followed. Around that time, Ash repeatedly referred to himself as a world champion - he had won the GBC belt against a fighter with a 2-4-1 record.
As I say, I'm not knocking what's been achieved. Fair play to him, he's done really well for himself. I just read and hear some of the tosh he comes out with and it does my head in.
Will totally earn my full respect if he takes on Williams or Woodhouse, but I can see his calls for Alex Arthur just getting louder.

I say world title fights cause thats what he was saying, think he said he was ranked number 5 by the IBF and turned down the chance to fight for it cause he had unfinished business in britain,i think he meant with the lightweights cause after he won it darren hamilton was the only true 140lber he fought against and look what happened,he got out foxed,he was trying to be the aggressor but was too gun shy to get involved

yes your right he had a british title eliminator at 147 and won and was meant to fight mathew hatton but done one to the states then comes back and trys his trade at 140 but only really fights hamilton who is a true 140lber,he talks as if he is a great when you read his post's and to be honest i prefer a boxer who lets his fights do the talking abit like a froch on the world scene or a woodhouse/williams on the domestic scene. like you say in your quotes from feb if he beats a williams he will earn my respect as a fighter thats if he can peel himself away from a mirror and a laptop with all the copy and pastes he does

I googled him, this is his signature from his Twitter...Ahem...
ENTERTAINER, CHAMPION BOXER, TED BAKER AMBASSADOR, BOXING PUNDIT, NUTRITIONAL CONSULTANT, POLITICAL ACTIVIST, MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER, CHARITY CAMPAIGNER,SPURS FAN
He is modest.
I've only seen him struggle with Ben Murphy, was surprised he managed to last against Garcia when I checked his boxrec. From what I've read here he is something of a tit. I've always disliked the tattoo "Thug Life" as well. I've only known bad bastard idiots to get it done. And that Tupac dick.

I'm sure he would take the bigger fights if they were there instead it makes more sense to keep active and keep winning.

Struggled in large parts against Daws, by all accounts did okay but didn't have it all his own way against a past it Jason Cook, Struggled against Ben Murphy, lost to Darren Hamilton.
Not world class.

he should take a leaf out of his manager's (ricky hatton) book then and not slag the guy off like he did in the past under one of a few alias' he has, ricky has been out 3 years and comes back against a not so dangerous opponent but a record that has only 1 loss and is well ranked by WBA

He's not kosher World class and won't be a World Champion but he is a very capable boxer; he's in a competitive division; domestic and international. He has shown initiative and desire by training in good gyms in the USA; I don't mind him - he's not my favourite boxer to watch but he knows what he's about and takes the sport seriously. From all accounts he's done well to turn his life around and be someone to emulate; he could have gone down the other road very easily. A success story for boxing and Theopane would be right if he were proud of himself.

Now I may sound like I'm having a dig at a lad or two but.after my fight with Hamilton was pathetically stopped after two rounds,I must say that I found Darren at the time to be completely ordinary.to think ash claims to be world class after being beaten by Darren leavese thinking he isn't even top Brit class.sorry if I offended but....

totally agree with you,a world class fighter should be able to adapt to any style that is thrown his way and darren hamilton out foxed theophane with little more than a step back and a stiff jab,a world class fighter would of found his way past this and dealt with the task at hand. im not ash isnt any good and i give him all the respect in the world for turning his life around and making a name for himself but c'mon stop making out that your in the premier division when really your 3rd tier

He's not world class. He needs to believe he is- which is why he tells everybody. However he's a very capable boxer who has achieved great things when you think about in spte of moderate ability. Fair play to him for taking the risks.
