I'm going to ask this again as I didn't get an answer in a previous thread.

I wouldn't mind going to Manchester to see the fight but why is there only 4 fights on the bill at the MEN? It seems odd to have a large arena with only 4 fights on the card. I cannot see Freddie attracting thousands of people. I know he's not the main attraction but he's the name person on the bill.

I'm not going all way to Manc to see only 4 fights.

Maybe it's to allow time for the retakes?

Is this fight actually being televised? Or are they just using the footage for Flintoff's Sky One show?

Its on allegedly channel - though they are advertising Price v Skelton the same night, so it must be a mix of the two cards they are showing

That would make sense. There is a risk that Price is going to knock Skelton over in a matter of seconds, and also that the Flintoff fight might not draw well on it's own. Make have a two-bill fight will give something worth watching.

There's a report in the Telegraph saying that 'only' 5000 tickets have been sold for the Flintoff fight so far.
Am i the only one amazed that 5000 people are willing to spend their cash on this?

People love celebrity these days, so I'm not that surprised. Especially as people don't seem to care whether the celebrity is doing something they are good at, or just pissing around.

Also, boxing does have a lot of casual fans who tend to tune in when somebody is a household name. The same people that were convinced that Derek Chisora was a world class heavyweight when he fought Haye are probably watching this.

I'd wonder how many hardcore boxing fans would bother to pay money to go and see a cricketer try to box. I expect there are more part-time fans going out of curiousity. The show on Sky One will create interest.

The only fight i'm interested in on this bill is the Vassell v Heffron one, but your right celebrity sells nowadays, i'm amazed by all of that stuff, how they get people to part with their money for this type of thing.

You got me. Why do people watch shit like Big Brother, or that jungle show where Z-Listers go on and eating insects and kangeroo testicles?

I have nothing against people admiring or enjoying the work of celebrities, but only when that celebrity is good at a specific field. Nothing wrong with enjoying the work of a singer, actor or sports personality. But these days people don't care if you're good at something, they just admire you because you managed to get on television. It's sad.

I think Flintoff's celebrity status has been in decline. It was 8 years since the Ashes truimph and the height of his fame. He is now a team captain for a sports panel show on a satalite channel - it aint watched by millions.

Most boxers would love to have 5,000 watching them. Excepting him to fill the MEN was a bit much.

Price of tickets are a rip off anyway. For the cheapies similar price to David Haye v Audley Harrison.

But I paid again similar price of 50 quid to watch Naz v Paul Ingle and get Tommy Hearns on the bill too.

Dinner shows are amusing, love hearing a boxing virgin helpfully shout 'hit him'. I mean the guys have heard it before, but not usually from a bellend in a pin stripe three piece whistle. My brother (for our mutual childish amusement) will shout out random phrases, like 'rope-a-dope' and watches and listens as some numbnut blindly repeats it oblivious to its irrelavence. Think thats the only reason my brother attends to be honest.

watch this space...... could the MEN show be 'postponed' and flintoff fight on the price bill?

Not at dinner shows it isn't. I think the reason women get stick is because at a typical show, they would be the newbie. At a dinner show, there are a lot of male newbies who feel they have to live up to the macho image of the sport, even whilst sipping from a champagne glass with their pinky finger extended.
