Senchenko fought a great fight

Just watched the fight again, focusing on Senchenko this time. He did everything right. Kept Hatton at long range as much as possible. Quick to get out of range as soon as his long shots reached the target (or near) , turned Hatton in a clinch or on the ropes.
He was completely different from the Malignaggi fight. Fought with confidence.
I know Hattons timing was well out and his legs were knackered by the 5th or 6th, but this guy needs credit as he boxed a brilliant, disciplined fight.

Hatton fought like a Kiltschko holding on the inside every 40 seconds. Senchenko never looked troubled but I had it a draw after 7 rounds.
That left hook that Hatton kept throwing was frustrating the hell out of me!

Good thread - it would have been easy for him to be completely over-whelmed by the occasion and be put off his game. He did really well. I admired his performance.
A lot of people said he was a load of rubbish - he wasn't.

He did well against a very rusty opponent. Hattons timing was appalling and he couldn't gauge his range. Shen kept popping the jab and countering. He also recognised when Hatton started to tire and turned it up a bit. I think had Shen known how bad Hatton was gonna be he would have fought with more aggression earlier on. Hats off though he didn't roll over and came to fight.

I dont think he fought a great fight - he fought a decent fight but i dont think there was anything fantastic about his performance, other than the finishing shot. A guy who held a world title one fight previous to this one should be beating guys who have been out of the ring for 3 and a half years, before the stoppage i think every judge had him down on the score cards. He was 3 minutes away from likely losing- "it doesn't matter if you win by an inch or a mile winning is winning" - however he was still getting outpointed by a non technical boxer who had been out of the ring 3 and a half years and had lost 5 stone for the fight.

I've seen Senchenko box a lot better than he did last night. The occasion did get to him a bit and he took too long to relax into it.

Do you think so? He would have taken the ninth by 10-8. Had it gone to the cards, I think Senchenko would have won. Then again, I don't know what the actual tallies were.

Defo had the Ukrainian up by 2-3 rounds at point if stoppage he was controlling the distance with jab for most if the fight ,whoever controls the distance generally wins the fight

77-76 on the cards of judges Oliver Brien and John Keane and 78-74 on Robin Dolpiere's all to Hatton. If he hadnt got a knockdown and it had gone the distance at best senchenko would have at best got a split decision. However if and buts n all that.

More dodgy scoring. How anyone could have Hatton 78-74 ahead at that stage is beyond me. Just look at their faces and it tells the story of who was missing and who was landing

77-76 maybe but that other one is way out of line...

Senchenko is nothing. The story here is all about Hatton. His opponent is kind of irrelevant. He is a tough top 20 type guy, and that was enough for Ricky last night, unfortunately.

Surprised by the scorecards - i had senchenko 5-3 up. He was boxing Hattons head off. Senchenko could be a good fighter, his problem has been failure to work through the levels in his career. I like his style though, a nice back foot fighter with a solid jab (really messed up Hattons face), and rather unpredictable.... he sort of stands square and makes it difficult to predict if he's going to jab or throw the right straight.
I have a feeling he might be a future Kell Brook opponent.

Another IBF Eliminator?

I agree with the Kell Brook comment. Would be a good yardstick fight.

No, he doesn't need another one of those. He boxed an eliminator, then a final eliminator, now he's got a shot at the title.

He didn't fight great but respect to him. He had a game plan and stuck to it. Most telling comment was from Ricky after. The body shots early on hurt and the Ricky of old would have been astute enough to protect against those shots for the remainder of the fight.

100% Agree - first thing i said to my mate as soon as you saw Hattons eye was "That jabs done him all night" picture tell a thousand words they say - in this instance it certainly did
I will hold my hands up and say i thought hatton would walk through him but after the first few rounds everyone watching who i was with could see Ricky was blowing a bit too hard and we worried he would come unstuck later on - unfortunately so!

I agree but Senchenko was precisely eighty-five billion times better last night than when he fought Paulie, in everyone's defence.
I thought Hatton would beat him, because I just assumed that if Hatton was coming back he knew what he was doing & wasn't
that far gone, & whilst I respected Senchenko I did think Hatton on his day shouldn't have had a nightmare of a time with him. I remember him against Malignaggi & thinking "Bloody big welterweight"; & I do feel that Hatton's brand of rough-housing relies on being the bigger stronger fella, even more so now he's faded & diminished. Though that didn't strike me as particularly important beforehand as I assumed Ricky's brainstrust would've made sure he was overwhelming big fecking welterweights in sparring as they were putting him in with one for real, like...
So. I overestimated Hatton's resources massively at this point in time, but that in no way means that I'm not tipping my hat to Senchenko, he brought it, sucked it up & did the do, to lapse into Septic for a second.

and ricky did everything wrong fought like he'd never fought before, what happened to everything he said in the build up, more head movement slipping jabbs, working off the jab the new ricky hatton. well it was the new rick hatton the reckless ricky hatton

I was at the fight and the general consensus around me was that they were equal after 8, at which point; with Ricky slowing massively and senchenko landing everything and bossing it, it was to be expected that it would have to be dodgy scoring for Ricky to take it

I had Senchenko 3 rounds up at the time of the KO, surprised that anyone had Hatton ahead on points at the time. Watching the C5 documentary when Shannon was watching Sen @ the public workout, he knew he would be too much for Hatton to handle, when he turned round to the camera and said "it's gonna be a great fight" he was thinking, shit this guy is better than that limp performance against Malignaggi

i thought that too.....
anyone who had hatton ahead was just biased. you could tell hatton wasnt going to win this fight by how he was taking senchenkos punches, even at the begining. the jabs were really snapping his head back , making him look really novicey at times. hattons only hope was of getting home with one of his bodyshots ala castillo, but in the end he was on the recieving end.
