Fury v Johnson

Anyone here giving Johnson the chance of an upset? On paper he would seem to have an outside chance given that he's been in with top level fighters like Vitali and performed ok but his lack of power and huge size disadvantage all points to a fairly lopsided Fury win on points for me. Something like 117-111.
Thoughts?

Agree really, he is just far too subdued for a boxer full stop let alone a heavyweight fighting a busy heavy in Fury. I can see him perhaps having a go for 3 rounds and as long as Fury has not been hurt I think that will be it really, Tyson's jabbing and combinations building a healthy points lead, I dont think its impossible that Fury stops him late on if he really goes for it purely through accumulation and that good old fashioned early stoppage.

I suspect Fury will stop him about round 7. I just see Johnson losing heart and taking a knee at first getting up then tyson unleashes a combination with the ref wading in to call it off.....I'm not expecting fireworks with this one. That will come in the post fight interview with Tyson

I'm actually seeing an upset here. Johnson actually has one of the best jabs in the division and has the skill and accuracy to thread plenty of flush shots through Fury's porous defence. Just look at what Johnson did to another prospect in Australia, Alex Leapai, (KO in 9). Johnson is very good at exploiting the flaws in lesser fighters. After watching Tyson Fury nearly getting dispatched by a no hoper like Neven Pajkic three fights ago how can any of you be do confident of a one-sided Fury win? Personally I think after being undone in this fight he'll never rise above domestic level again - the inner fatty will come out and he'll end up as the second coming of Kevin McBride!

Fury has improved an awful lot though since the Pajkic fight. His conditioning is miles better, he's using his jab a lot more and he just looks an all-round better fighter than he was a year ago. Johnson is not a puncher and for him to get a decision in Belfast he'd have to dominate the fight which I just can't see happening. It is a step up for Fury but not hugely.

That fight was less than a year ago, and he's surely more plateaued than improved. If Johnson can't punch then how did he drop Leapai? He shock him up and dropped him in numerous rounds. Or how did he blast out Meddoun in the 1st round at Prizefighter? Pajkic had 5 stoppage wins to his name in 17 fights, and he got Fury on the deck!

Meddoun was a 5 fight novice who was clearly well out of his depth having already lost one of his first 5 fights. Leapai was a decent win but the guy had already lost 3 times to no mark opposition and whilst a big puncher, at 6 foot tall, Leapai will not have posed anything like the sort of challenge someone the size of Fury would.

Well we'll see, but in my experience fighters with Tyson's type of flaws always get exposed at world level sooner rather than later.

if you can get round...inbetween ...or under Fury's elbows, you stand a good chance of knocking him out.
but i think in this fight the lazy johnson takes one cuff-to-the-ear-on-the-break too many and quits between 5-7

This could either be a dull jab fest or a really exciting up and down fight. Fury and Kingpin will both want to establish their jabs and take the centre of the ring. Fury's fights are rarely dull though and if Johnson can stand up to Fury's flurries then he will have a real chance of getting close and hurting him.
I'll go for Fury by a late stoppage

Johnson's jab is way better - you're in for a shock!

It seems anywhere between 95-98% of people on here are predicting an easy Fury victory, just as they all did with Ricky Hatton last weekend. Johnson is being made to seem like a passive fat punchbag in most threads. Hardly anyone has noted just how good Johnson's jab is... but say it and people just want to make jokes that he only throws 3-4 a round. Nobody seems to want to accept that Fury nearly got stopped by Neven Pajkic, who at best was a very average journeyman, barely a year ago. Johnson has the tools pull off the upset. Second weekend in a row and the armchair pundits are wrong, blind or ignorant ...take your pick!
Mid-late rounds stoppage by the American.

Johnson always had that brilliant jab.
He's just never looked like he really cared and I've seen quite a bit of him over the years. I reckon his lack of effort will probably see him lose via decision. Johnson's always been that way.
I think if he was really up for it, he has more than enough to beat Fury but, can't see the habits of a lifetime changing.

Both fighters are underated, but I can't see Fury knocking out Johnson, as most people are saying
Fury is looking a lot less flabby now and has a good jab, as does Johnson
Will be a close one on points 115-113 Fury

At first I thought Johnson but then I changed my mind to Fury, a boring UD.
I hope Johnson doesn't win because I had him by KO in my treble...
Johnson would have been a lot more interesting as a Price opponent IMO, because there are still question marks over Price's stamina and chin and Johnson is not the type to be banged out early.

It's certainly an intriguing fight. If Johnson decides to actually go for it, then we could be in for a good night and not the messy affair that I fear it will be.
I just expect Johnson to shut up shop around the fourth round and as said above, possibly be overwhelmed, take a knee and count in what will be a scrappy affair late on.
Fury late on for me but I'm having a cheeky little bet on Johnson to win via KO or TKO at 13/2.

Johnson can be got at 6.2 to win by any method on Betfair. I think there's some value in a small punt at those odds.

Coverage on Channel 5 starts at 9 so I'd imagine 30 minutes of build up then 9.30 for the entrances.
