Anyone know what this Silver belt means? (Other than a sanctioning fee?)

Not a bad fight at this stage, but not quite as decent as Johnson is for Groves.

Johnson is done. His legendary stamina was gone - he was blowing out his arse from round 6 - 10 and threw the odd jab. Fonara took 8 of the 10 rounds and he ain't special.

The main thing about Johnson was he officially retired straight after Fonfara, admitting he was finished.

Decent enough opponent to mean Degale can't have one of his lazy off days

The WBC replaced the WBC International belt with the Silver belt. So it's just a belt that gives you a high ranking with them if you keep defending it.

Name wise johnsons better and also despite his last performance still a better opponent that Zuniga in my opinion.

I hope your right. Cos if he was anything like his last outing he will be very disappointing.

I think that both Groves and DeGale will score stoppages; Johnson has been very very tough and well conditioned but is really sliding now; Groves hits as hard as anyone in the 12 stone division.

Groves has took a good niche and gap in the market if he could stop Johnson he will earn alot of kudos in the boxing ratings. Only stoppage coming against Bernard Hopkins back in 1997 in middleweight division. He has been in there with some of the best and defiantly will boost Groves if he can win the fight in style. He will also learn alot against a an ex world champion.

Degale now has a chance to show everyone the skill level he fails to show. He has been in the best but if Degale can box the way we ALL know he can then he could have a comfortable night and continue to force himself into a mandatory title shot. If he is going the WBC route its a shot at Andre Ward which I think may be the worse move.

Both will try and force themselves into the IBF route to face off with Froch.

I'd agree re. both fights. Groves has to look to dominate Johnson from range early, he looked like losing heart vs Bute and Fonfara and Fonfara ain't anything special. If he can have the fight in the bag by halfway I think he can force a stoppage. Obviously Johnson is well past hs prime but he pushed Froch hard 18 months ago, it's a good scalp for the record.
Chunky's fight is huge, not due to the opponent but how he performs. No more of the 'in the pocket' stuff (or at least not as much of it), box from range like he did vs Smith, bust him up and either outclass him or stop him late. Chunk HAS to look good and he can, but it's up to him.
I disagree with where they will be looking to go though. Mick is well established with the WBC but Ward v De Gale won't happen, neither pull a crowd big enough to justify the level of fight and Ward will head north to 175 soon - a re-match with Froch after he's delt with Pavlik is all there is for him at 168. Chunky will fight for a vacant title if he keeps winning.
Groves won't get Froch either - Kessler and Ward are the two worthwhile fights for him at 168. If he doesn't retire then I honestly think Clev at 175 could be a possibility next winter, it might be he even has to chase Kessler and Ward up at 175. Don't see him taking any other fights. Warren will direct Groves towards Abraham, which is the sensible option. Very winable, the two promotors work well together and the rankings make it likely - it's a good fight as well

If DeGale and Groves both win then they are basically not far from World title eliminators.

Imagine Degale v Groves 2 for a vacant title this time next year if they both keep winning and froch or ward move up and vacate not likely but its possible I guess!

dunno... i dont think Groves will have a standard FW contract... im sure he is like a subcontractor in building terms

I think the Groves fight has had a really bad effect on DeGale's confidence. He's just not looked the same since that fight and has struggled with the opponents he's faced. Before Groves, I genuinely fancied DeGale to win a world title within a couple of years. Now I'd actually be very surprised if he managed it. His defence is leaky and he gets hit too often, his punch power has not travelled up as the opponents he has fought have improved and against any pressure fighter he seems to panic a bit.

Maybe, but Tommy Karpency did far better against Fonfara than Johnson did; to me that says a lot about Johnson's current form.
